Yerf dog model 3203 wheel key

I was wondering if someone could help me figure this out. I ordered a new axle for yerf dog 3203. Everything’s great fits well and it comes with a long key that you can cut for the wheels, brake drum and sprocket. I tried installing the key into the wheel but it will not go in even if I hit it with a hammer and screwdriver. Now I’m afraid the key won’t come back out and be stuck in there. And I’m not sure why it’s so tight. What should I do?

The old axle is seized together. I’m gonna contact people at bki karts and see what I can do. Now I’m not sure how to get the key out cause they’re stuck in there. I’m afraid I’m gonna get it stuck and not be able to take off the wheels at all. If you know a trick of how I can get them out that would be great. The is about a centimeter in but it won’t go further. This is really time consuming I was hoping to get it driving today.

The key fits on the axle and should also fit on the wheel there’s no reason they give me a 3 foot long of key for not to fit in the wheel you know? It’s odd

Sometimes using a small pick under the edge of the stuck key and tapping it up and out with a light hammer works. Take the wheel to a hardware store & match up the key. They should have a few options. Try cleaning out the groove in the wheel. Maybe there's some build up in the groove. A small screwdriver should fit in the slot. Clean the sides and the edges of the slot. Doesn't take much to throw off the sizing.

Sounds good I might have to drop the axle again so I can hit it from the other side. I will for sure take it to a hardware store and get it properly fit. Thanks!

AsIde from everything in post # 5, once you get the key out take some medium grit wet and dry sandpaper and sand the key really good. The corners are usually full of burrs and will cause things to not fit. I have had this problem with many brand new parts. Do a test fit on both the axle and the wheel. Then before final assembly rub a bunch of wheel bearing grease on everything. If you still need a hammer to persuade it, use a block of wood between the part being hit and the hammer.
