Im working on a golf cart, custom suspension front and rear. Originally, the plan was to use a Pred 420, but I would really like to use a 670 if I can. The problem is that there is only 12 inches of height under the seat. How short can I get these engines?

Sounds like the 420 with a different exhaust and a remote gas tank is a winner.
In your 1st post you asked " how short can I get one of these engines ". That's not a variable. What ever it is, it is. Why don't you go down to harbor freight and take some measurements of the 670. If it's over the 12" of clearance you currently have, then it's time to make some modifications, or use the 420. Pretty simple. Your kart, your choice. Hope the V-twin fits.

Lots of golf carts with the 670 engines. The trick is to build (or buy from Vegas carts) a "engine cradle". This bolts to the rear axle and has a pivot at the front. So the engine and transaxle are all one unit. It also sets the engine much lower so there is no interference with the seat/engine space.
I built my own. If you aren't doing a golfcart trans the cradle is still a good idea to lower the drivetrain.
