Seat loose in new kart

Hi all,

I got my kids a new kart and we’ve driven maybe 3 days and the seat is coming almost all the way off.

it’s attached at 4 spots where there’s a nut on the seat adjustment rail, but from the looks of it those may have been just sewn into the seat material which ripped? I’m not sure about that, but also can’t really see how to reattach it.

looking for any advice here as I’m not really sure how to fix this issue.

I looked in the assembly manual and the rail that’s detaching from the seat is supposed to be part of the seat, and ride on the rails on frame for adjustment. So it is in fact breaking and not just needing reattachment or something. Maybe that was obvious to those more experienced, but just thought I’d be more specific

It’s a Coleman gk200. Sorry I meant to add a pic. Here’s the go kart itself and where it’s detaching. The one spot still connected looks like the nut is sewn into the seat fabric or something, so really having trouble imaging how to fix it.

I’d just take the seat off and see where I can add a bolt.

if that top tube has an open end, you might be able to drill a hole then use a wire to fish a bolt through then through a hole in the bottom rail, then a nut on the bottom.

basically you want the nut in metal, not fabric. So you might need to drill a hole.

Unless you can weld…

Can you show me the other side? Is like to see what it looks like when not broken.

I too am struggling to determine how the seat is coming undone. I guess those photos don't do it justice.

It looks like the top part with the jagged hole in the vinyl met the bottom part and the exposed nut there tore a hole in it.

That’s right. The material was sewn over the top nut. Which seems… stupid?? I like the idea of drilling my own hole in the metal. Seems like it should be made that way in the first place.

we’ve only driven it on three different days like I mentioned, granted we did run it pretty hard over some bumpy terrain lol. But I’d expect a brand new Coleman kart to do better than 3 days before the entire seat detaching.

Your buggy was made by Chinese galley slaves who's only real goal was to get it out the door so sometimes the quality or quality control is very lacking. Just be glad it was the seat and not something major.

Bob's comment in post #5 isn't too far out. If you have the 90 day or whatever warranty, I'd invoke it and see if the customer service rep will send out a new seat or something (psst, just tell them it came that way). You'd be surprised what they'll do, it IS the Coleman brand name after all and not "Jingshin" or whatever.

If they send a new seat, repair the old one and then take measures to protect the new seat so it's not deja vu all over again.

It’s under warranty, why not get a new part? Better than it completely failing out of warranty when you can’t do anything about it.
