Getting ready for winter

Here in Southern California where things like snow shovel, storm windows, and snow blowers are unheard of, winter brings on something completely different.
Riding season. Most all of our off road activity takes place out in the desert.
( Especially San Diego county ) All but impossible to go in the summer time and about a month before and after. Too hot. Halloween is sort of the kick off or start of the season. Been building one, and refreshing another. Even being my very old and slow self, I should have everything ready then. Pictures aren't very good. I'm not very good at this technical stuff.

Good work Pancho, them things look Purdy! We get between 0-1 snows in this part of NC, it just gets cold. Hot summers, cold winters, short fall and spring. I like it here, though.

Your "winter" is fall here. Lol. Winter is ice fishing season for me. The occasional rip in the snow with a live axle kart is always a blast though!

Those motors sure look purdy! There's something about a billet side cover that really makes an engine pop. Looks like it's going to be a fun winter for you guys! Enjoy!!

What rod and cam you running in the 224???

I hope you had more fun clearancing the block, cam and crank then I did,

I was ready to give up on it on day 2.

Thank you all for your compliments. Being old and retired gives me plenty of time to keep up on things. Even if it happens at a deathly slow pace.
HACK. The vent lines are to allow pressure out of the block, and probably lubricate the rockers a bit better. The 212 is running GAGE 1.2 to 1 rollers. The 224 champion shaft mounts. Cast, not stamped.
BSR. The rod is ARC standard length with a flat top piston. Cam is the smallest aftermarket one I could find. C S torque grind. .265" lift on both sides. Duration
@ .050, 225 intake ( not much more than stock ) exhaust 236. Cam came
pre- clearanced from OMB Warehouse which I'm sure saved me a bunch of headaches. Still had to grind on the block in 3 or 4 different places. Wasn't so much the grinding, as the assembly, check, pull it apart, grind some more,
reassemble, check again, and ect. ect. Probably had the thing apart 5 times.
Time consuming to be sure. That big end of the ARC rod just doesn't want to fit in there.

Yeah l get that. Maybe l’m missing something, but it looks like the hoses go from the crankcase to the valve cover? There must be an atmospheric open end somewhere?

Yeap, sounds like you had jus as much fun as I did.

My biggest problem was trying to keep the metal outta the bearing.

I filled it full of grease, used 2 flat plastic coffee can lids held together with a bolt and wing nut, with a shop vac, and still had metal in the bearing. What a pain.

I used the arc 6271 +.020" rod and hemi ft piston to get .006" piston to deck, and Isky BMJ cam that was not clearanced.

Nice builds, I'm sure you will get plenty of fun out of em,

HACK. Might not be visible in the picture, but there is a 3rd fitting in the valve cover that goes to a oil ( blow by ) catch can that is vented to the atmosphere.
Gets connected after engine is installed, as catch can is mounted on frame.

BSR. Before I started grinding I scoured the area around the bearing with alcohol, air dried, and then covered with a pre fabricated 3" x 3" piece of Gorilla tape. Seemed to stick and hold real good. Feel certain nothing got in there. I guess longevity, or lack of it will let me know.

Looks like it won't be until around Thanksgiving. I either go with my two grandsons, or my three granddaughters. The boys usually have a more open schedule. The girls are in travel softball leagues, school jazz band and music lessons, and golf. My daughter in law keeps them so busy they don't have time to think. Oldest grandson, quite a soccer player ( plays for the local junior college as well as semi pro ) just tore the living snot out of one of his knees.
ACL and miniscus. Major surgery about 10 days ago. Hopefully he can get back into driving by about February. There will still be three months of cool temperature left. His younger brother doesn't really want to go alone. So I will try to get two trips in before the end of the year. Thanksgiving and Christmas holiday vacations. " Schedules permitting ". I should be able to get some action shots. Will proudly post them if all goes as planned.

Well Grampa did his part. Oldest Grandson is 3 or 4 weeks into recovery from major knee surgery ( tore his ACL ) and won't be able to drive one of these until
late January or early February. 2 of my 3 Granddaughters are home in bed with the flu or some kind of ailment. So it looks like it might not happen until Christmas vacation. Might get a Saturday or Sunday trip in before that. Depends on softball schedules in two different leagues. Truck is ready ( 1/2 of the pulling ordeal ) karts are ready, mini bike ( still under the cover ) is ready, and the trailers are ready. So you can't say I didn't try

Well being surgery or sickness, I can't complain. It's certainly nothing they had a choice about. There's always tomorrow. I'll eat my turkey and count my blessings
just knowing that they would like to spend some time with their Grandpa.
