Hello all, I am new to the forum but I am needing help please. Our 2 boys received a Coleman KT196 go kart for Christmas. It's a 2 seater. They love it. However, it has less than maybe 8hrs of ride time and we have changed belts around 4 times already. Quite frankly we are fed up with the issue. Have tried cleaning the torque converter/pulleys etc with no luck. Someone said to buy the equivalent Comet belt. We did. They got a solid 45 minutes out of it and same thing, shredded it. To the baked eye all looks perfect and aligned. But I'm at a loss. So I contacted GoPowerSports in Texas to ask about a replacement kit. They sell the entire torque converter and associated parts for around $120. But he asked if it had a 3/4" or 5/8" shaft and asked what series it is. From what research I have done it is a 30 series but I truly don't know and I am away from home for work for 2 more weeks. Any help to get the boys back on their kart would be awesome and much appreciated. Thanks again, Jeremy D

Two words: Gear ratio. Count the number of teeth on each sprocket from engine to axle and report back.
Out of curiosity, what does that have to do with shredding of belts, especially if it's completely stock straight out of the shipping crate? Unmodified

Does the torquey-verter come with that bearing inside the driver unit instead of the bushing?

They didn’t have that bearing when made in Indiana.

A196cc engine generally has a 3/4” shaft.

The jackshaft size on your set up is unknown to me. The jackshaft has the other pulley on it.

Sometimes the jackshaft is 5/8” or 3/4” or even 7/8”

I'll have to look when I get back home in 2 weeks. I think it's the bushing type

"completely stock straight out of the shipping crate? Unmodified" Trying to see where you previously mentioned this...

It was my original post. I was asking why my belts keep shredding on a brand new Coleman KT196. It has less than 8hrs ride time and I have replaced belts multiple times. Usually get 30-45 minutes per belt. Got expensive quickly. The torque converter and it's components were all original straight out the crate, unmodified. To the naked eye, both pulleys are perfectly aligned also. No idea what else it could be. So I contacted GoPowerSports and a tech told me it could be the drive components like the TC and driven pulley could be bad. Of course they sell a complete replacement kit. $120. But I'm running out of options on what else it could be

It has to be the clutches eating the belts then. You will have to measure the diameter of the jack shaft to know what size you’ll need. The Jungle Store often has clutches cheaper.
Ok, I'll definitely check them out. Thank you

Lmbo sorry about that. I didn't put it into context lol. Yes I've seen them on there. My only concern was I wonder what kind of quality they are?
