Gy6 vs predator 420. Potential restore question

I have a chance to pick this up for $150. Doesn't run. I plan on grabbing it. But I had a carter Talon 150 I tried to restore at one point. I'm sure my thread about it is still here ha.
My question if anyone has an opinion. Is it worth sticking with the GY6 or swapping a predator 420 with a tc and just do a pull start with no lights or electric start. Keep it simple.
In all honesty I'm afraid of the wiring and electrical system on these. They are a mess. That's what made me give up restoring my previous carter talon.
Any thoughts, comments, suggestions and criticism are appreciated.

How does the motor with a tc compare to the gy6? And I assume I will lose reverse with a simple predator set up.

Yeah, reverse goes bye bye. I'm not sure how they compare, but. 420 is way easier to make go faster later on.

Didn't realize the 420 had an electric start. I think I am going to pull the gy6 and go with the predator. Eliminate all that other wiring. I got so frustrated and wasted so much money trying to figure out the wiring that I essentially gave it away. I have regretted my rash decision since here I am again. Starting over haha.

F-N-R gearbox for big blocks.
Options for included driver and driven.

So that is a TC and gearbox for reverse? I have a 30 series TC, but it was for my 1 wheel peel kart.
I like the idea of reverse on a bigger buggy. After I pick this thing up, I will swap to the 420 predator and this 40 series tc/gearbox.
I feel like I will be diving much deeper than I planned but I'm good with that. It will be fun with the kids

I figured. I didn't intend to. Not even sure why I brought it up in this thread. Lol.
I am starting the feel like the 420 and a 40 series is what will power this buggy. Keep it simple.

The biggest challenge with swapping GY6 and yard engines is the mounting systems.
GY6 are mounted/suspended from the top.
Not rocket science, but it does involve some fabrication.

I couldn't tell for sure, but your photo's look like the GY6 is completely mounted on the swingarm?
That should somewhat simplify things
Mine has the GY6 rear mounted hard tail on the swingarm and the front is mounted to the suspended main frame through some "dog bone" hangers.

One thing about the GY6 is that they come with a pretty decent electrical capacity, which tends to increase on the larger and newer engines.
The newer 150's have evolved up to 180-240 watts.
That's pretty good for charging plus extra bells and whistles.
I don't really know where the various yard engines are with their lighting coil capacity.

Good info. I am not afraid to fabricate brackets and mounting plates as needed. I can handle most mechanical issues, but the electrical for me is like finding Bigfoot riding a unicorn.
I had completely restored a carter talon 150r. Complete disassemble, frame cleaned and painted, new shockes, new tires, new brake cylinder, disc and pads, new GY6 motor. But when it came to the electrical... I eventually got frustrated and sold it.
So the 420 swap may be more mechanical fabrication to mount and align stuff but I can eliminate all the excess wiring and extra fluff I won't need. Haha

For the 40 series torque converter, if you flip the driver clutch 180 degrees and install a reverse wound spring in the driven clutch, it will be very much like a oversized 30 series. That kart with a 420 and a torque converter will be quiet powerful.

Read up on the 40 series and how it works before you go diving in. GoKart Supply has an excellent tutorial.
Is there something specific I should be looking for? Pitfalls you may have run into that I should be researching? I read the gokart supply info. And watched some YouTube this far
