Hello Forum I recent bought an old gokart off of market place. Ive been trying to figure out the model the tag behind the driver side seat is worn off. I know it was made by Carter Bros. But anyway anyone know what model this is or what type of belt I need for this thing.

Heres a few picsIMG-20230430-154252.jpg

Thanks guys for the info. I found a picture on google of a go-kart similar and it was a Carter #2435. Heres a picture of the belt that broke.

I measured from the center shaft to the middle of the driven pulley its about 8.5 and the driven pulley is around 7 inches.

Looks like the kart was upgraded to a 30 Series clutch/ torque converter. Your belt is the wrong type. It's a symmetrical belt with an asymmetrical clutch. I would suggest a Comet premium cogged belt like this. You'll need to measure for the correct size.

You might be better off with a new drive clutch, new driven clutch and new belt.

Here's the deal. That kart shipped with a symmetrical clutch and belt. You'll need to go back to the original setup since the driven is mounted inboard or the pulley is on the left. You'll need an inboard driven a symmetrical belt and a symmetrical clutch. The way it is now the spring in the driven is going the wrong way. The drive clutch has a spring that moves the sheaves. That won't work either. You'll need the following parts. Maybe there are other options, someone here may know of some.

Yes the alignment of the clutch and driven seem to be off. I was having a hard time choosing a belt and figured something wasn't right especially trying to match it to the one that broke. If I was to change it back to factory would that decrease the speed?

Carter Brothers bought both Max-Torque and Comet t/c. The Max-Torque was symmetric and we only used a 7" driven. The belt may have been a MXT RMT 31.25 . When fun kart building in the United States stopped in 2005 some companies were mixing part just to use them up.

The broken belt pictured isn't a cogged belt. Something is amiss. What I would suggest is installing the drive system for a Model 2335 kart. That system used an inboard 20 Series setup.

When changing ratios you either gain low end torque or high end speed, you can't have both. It should run fine with the correct setup. Use a straight edge when aligning the drive and driven pulleys.

Thanks for the plug Denny. It is a Comet driven unit because the Max-Torque driven has 4 holes for the spring adjustment in the driven unit. All I was saying was at the end of fun kart building companies like Carter were mixing various parts to get the karts out the door. Some went out with drivens that were symmetric and drivers that were asymmetric. All fun kart building STOPPED in 2005 in the United States when product liability got too expensive. The writing was on the wall when Briggs quit selling engines to the industry because they were tired of the lawsuits.
