I really didn’t think the biggest headache of the project so far would be figuring out a tire situation cheaply but it has been. At the moment (this has changed a dozen times) I’m planning on 15x5.5-6 for the rear and then running the 4.10x8 on the front until I can get another set. My issue with this is that it is a 10” sprocket, so you guys think that is enough clearance for it if I made up a shield for it?

You will have a max of 2.5" of clearance under the the sprocket . Plenty for pavement or smooth dirt roads. Somehow bigger tires seems easier than building a shield for the sprocket, but then again I have never built one. Maybe easier than I am imagining.
I was going to go with 18’s but then they are twice as much per tire and almost the same on rims. 15 was the largest I could find for 6” rim so going most cost effective since I’m having to buy new. At least I will have the torque converter so I could always go larger in the future but my goal as of now is to get it running and driving for spring time so the kids can use it. I’ll post pics when I make the shield, just waiting on the axel so I can get the pillow blocks mounted

I hear you on the cost. I've purchased my share of 18's and you would think you're buying for a full sized vehicle. I've also stuck tubes in tires that still had a decent amount of knobbies on them but were weather wise LONG overdue for replacement and have been very pleasantly surprised at how well they have held up. Looked like they would start flinging chunks of rubber at the first good romp on the gas, but 2 years later still doing fine.
I completly get the tire situation. The tires on my dingo are probably origonal and I tubed them after we welded the rust holes in the wheels. I do have a kart with 11" rears and a 60 tooth sprocket. Close to the ground but havent had issues with it even with the occasional ground contact.

i think cars and cameras tried that on one of their builds if i remember correctly they had success but i don't remember the sizes.
Great, I’ll have to see if I can find it. A 6.5 wide tire is $36, an 8 wide is $95 and of course I bought 8.5 wide

idk if it would, but id think the tire would be pulling on the bead more than usual. id say wait till some of the guys who know what theyre saying get here bc ive never done it. or maybe just go for it and see what happens!

Also getting it on the bead would be quite a bit more difficult. Unless you have split rims.

just use more staring fluid, or saw-glue
Maybe I’ll start with the 5 wide on 6 wide rims and see how it goes first as I already have those tires. I wanted turf tires for the back but can only find slicks in the width I want so might end up doing turf in the front and slicks in the back to get it moving

What's the planned driving surface?
Little bit of everything. Just saw some tires that were stretched 2” more on a drift kart and not my style. Hoping the 1” stretch isn’t bad and then just gunna do the slicks to start since I can get 2 for the price of 1

Buy the proper sized tire for the rim. There is nothing to be gained from going too small except injury and death. They both kind of suck!
