So I'm do some cleaning and investigating on my new to me Manco Dingo. Has anyone here added an electric start to an Briggs 8hp or similar size engine? Is it possible to buy a flywheel with the ring gear installed on it? I haven't been able to find one. Also curious about a wire coming off the engine. It comes out from under the flywheel. I sure looks like a 12 volt power supply. I suppose I could run the engine and check for power there. I think I'll try that. It also had a wire coiled up hanging off the frame. Appears to have been there since the kart was new. Seems strange to have a 12 volt power source with no electric start. I've got some pics. Just looking for any input to this.

Briggs and Stratton.com alternator specifications. should at least tell you what you have. ps all I know about electrical is don’t wear any metal rings while you do it. Toasty!853FC850-D315-428B-80AD-C3F958B039AA.png

next there are 8hp electric start engines with duel alternators. one dedicated lights dc and one ac through a diode to dc for the battery. you got lucky enough having a pullstart only lighting coil engine. reminiscent of the h40 tecumsehs on mini bike’s but much bigger! The new thing is to adapt a tecumseh lighting coil to a Briggs 5hp so you can run a small light. don’t remove your factory installed/torqued flywheel... It might just be me but I never liked doing that.ED549986-6665-44CC-ADC4-3CA9FFEB48DE.png

I just finished swapping the electric start components from a bad clone engine to a non-electric start 212 Predator. Not a Briggs though. The bad engine had 2 charge coils. They fit perfectly. The flywheel went on fine. I had to switch the coil wire and remove a tin shield to allow starter clearance. Had to swap the cooling fan and the shroud. Ran out of daylight, moment of truth tomorrow. I ordered an electric start kit in case the starter on the bad engine is scrap. Watch the video here: https://www.vpowerequipment.com/predator-212cc-electric-start-kit/

Yes, I think so. The person I bought the cart from was the original owner:), and he was going to find the paperwork from the kart and give it to me. It may give some insight. Here's a pic of the side cover off the motor. My son thought it might reference the 12v but I think it's the ignition coil.

Thanks BaconBitRacing. I actually did a quick search. here's what I found.

"Magnetron Ignition – This solid-state ignition system introduced by Briggs & Stratton in 1982 eliminated the points-and-condenser system"
Nice! It was grandfathered in for a little longer but it’s easy to tell which is which.
