B&S 5HP crankshaft female threads

Alright, dumb question time. do 5HP Briggs engines normally have threads for a clutch bolt? Before I buy one I’d like to know because I want to run a TC. Also, anyone have experience on how much it would cost at a machine shop to get those threads drilled? I’m looking for experience with old engines rather than going predator 212. Thanks a ton.

I know I’m being stubborn . I’m sure the 212 would make my life easier, some part of me is just old school. You’re right, I just don’t really want Chinese parts on my kart. Thanks Red!

Depends on what tools you have access to. A drill guide bushing that goes over the crankshaft would be my choice.

Mark the exact center of the shaft with a center punch and drill straight you can use small torpedo levels to help guide you. It works I’ve done it! You can also rotate the crank 1/2 turn every so often to help keep it level. Some even start the engine and drill that way.

Yes, make sure you use a machinists ruler.
