I'm ecstatic...

A deal that I've been working on for about a month now, just came together and I picked up 2 more Fantic TX5 go karts yesterday morning. The one pretty much matches my other 2 karts, but the other one... a twin-engine setup. WOW, I never knew Fantic made one.

AND... in on the deal I got 3 disc brake setups... I had never even seen an original Fantic brake setup before.

PLUS... another set of Pirreli tires on the turbine wheels.

OH WAIT... my Fantic TX5 Broncco dreams got even better. I came across a guy overseas who had a stash of NOS Fantic TX5 parts, so I bought what he had ($$$)

Seat covers, sprockets, and center grease caps...

My one finished TX5 is nice, and it's fast, but I just don't feel right about running a CHINESE Predator on it. I'm still working on a more proper engine setup...

It's an Italian made go kart and I love it. They're well made and they handle beautifully. The company entered the market late and didn't seem to be fully committed. I think they only made karts for a hanfull of years then put all their focus on their motocross bikes and mini bikes. Information and parts on their go karts is scarce.

Good choice on the Lifan. Home Depot has it for $161.11, or with electric start for $243.31..................
One thing though, Lifan is a Chinese manufacturer.

Lifan is a good engine choice.

I do have a brand new Tillotson 212 hemi w/electric start sitting in my living room, but I was thinking I'd like to put something more period correct on them. I do have a few possible options... a Clinton 4cycle (not sure of the size) a Clinton 4hp 2cycle chainsaw engine, a couple of larger McCullough's, a Homelite ZIP, and some other big ole vintage 1958-60s chainsaws...
The problem with a lot of those is finding a motor mount and a clutch for them.

Thought about a Tecumseh HS50? You can find them cheap, think scrapped snowblowers.

197cc, 5hp @3600, 27Lb weight. With some dress up and white paint, could match well.
Same dimensional size.

Cheap+ mor powa + OG looks = win? It shipped with a tecumseh 4-cycle , right?

Sweet projects!

I think I have a HS50 somewhere... but as far as that being the engine that came on them... kinda yes and no, itsid pointed out to me that it was an engine made by Tecumseh for the European market and different than those for the US market. Still, it would look good and right since nobody seems to know a whole lot about Fantics anyway. ;) Heck, I may just experiment with a few different engines and see what I like best.

I think it's a sad thing that Fantic only made a half *** effort in entering the go kart market and offering nothing bigger than a girly 3hp engine. If I'm not mistaken, the first ones only had a 2hp. pfft!!!

Maybe I shouldn't be concerned at all which engine I choose, aye?

I'm a huge fan of the Predator 212s, although they DO look goofy with the cylinder banked to the rear. May I humbly suggest a Briggs 3 1/2hp? It would look fairly correct and they put out nice hp.

Ya know... I've been looking for one... CHEAP. Eventually, I'll find one. Right now I have something like 35 engines of various sizes, both 2cycle and 4cycle, so I have to start being more selective. It's horrifying to anyone but an addict... isn't it?

In my opinion, these Fantic karts never got the recognition they deserved, but, it was the company's own fault for their half-hearted attempt at entering the US market. The best they did was powering their kart with a 3 1/2hp engine, then after a handful of years producing the karts, they abandond the market all together. There's very little information available on the Internet concerning these fine karts.

The frontend design is strong, the wheels and center caps are a work of art, the handling is superb.

I even have 2 sets of the original Pirelli tires with no cracks or dry rot.
