Anyone know where I can find extremely strong bolts? this grade 8 zinc plated one failed after about 2 weeks of use. I am looking to avoid the below situation.
Observation - Looks like it sheared on the threads and the threads are pretty beat up like it is not very smooth on the neck. (?)
Was that end of the bolt at the top or the bottom ?
That tells you where the stress is higher. That same bolt turned the other way may have endured the stress since the head end does not have the stress risers like the threaded end has.
You could use a longer bolt so the shank is taking the load and cut the excess threads rather than have the threads take the sheer stress.
The threaded end was on the bottom, I have a lathe I was thinking of turning down a piece of rebar and make some sort of 'pin' without threads that will hold the fork on, if not I will just get bearings that will fit a 1/2in grade 8 screw. Either way, I will be posting pictures of whatever I decide to do on this thread later on.
