hello i have a mini chopper i recently aquired by doing some trading. it has a 49cc loncin engine. i can do about 30 35 on it. yesterday i went on and tried to do an oil change because oil was old according to previous owner. on the bottom of engine there are two bolts. one is oil and the other contains a thin cylinder and a spring. i accidently unscrewed that one and the spring and cylinder thing popped out. i did'nt know how they popped out so, i put spring in first and then the cylinder. after i did oil change, i started chopper but now there is this wierd sound. can anyone tell me what i did wrong and what that cylinder/spring thing does. i don't want to run it for fear that it might blow up. any help will be appreciated.

not sure on this engine, but on some old kawasaki's there were chain tensioners. i mean on tw strokes. try looking up your engine by manufacturer, then see if replacement parts are available. maybe they will offer those parts and have a diagrahm of how they fit.

Is it a two or four stroke? i assume two, but if it is a 4 stroke OHV than it could be the cam chain tensioner.

i put spring in first and then the cylinder.

Have you tried installing the cylinder first?

I don't know for sure but that cylinder might be the oil pump that works off an eccentric/lobe of the cam or crank with the spring/bolt holding tension against it. Even if these parts have some other purpose I'd guess the spring would probably go in the middle against the bolt.

Usually parts like these will leave some type of tale-tale wear marks of were they've been touching/vibrating against each other proving how they were originally installed. If you clean everything up and use a strong magnifying glass to look really carefully, you might be able to see some evidence confirming how its supposed to be assembled.

You might search through (or post in) some of these other web sites/forums: http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&...49cc+loncin+engine+&btnG=Search&aq=f&oq=&aqi= There's probably been some other guys in your same exact situation...

If your engine is a Honda Clone, then the bolt is your cam chain tensioner. If this link works, it will bring you to a parts diagram at bikebandit.com.

http://www.bikebandit.com/houseofmotorcycles/honda-motorcycle-z50ak6-1975/o/m9392

I arbitrarily picked a 1975 Honda z50AK. The order that the parts go back in is:

1. a round ball like "cushion", which may already be in there
2. the "cylinder"
3. the spring
4. the bolt with sealing washer on it.

I highly suggest that you pick up the following Cymer manual and refer to page 83 for proper installation and adjustment.

If not, you will probably damage your engine, you do not want a mis-adjusted cam chain. That is the noise that you are hearing.

thanks a bunch

thanks to all that have been trying to help. residentg ur right it is the cam tensioner part. problem is that i installed spring in first and now i cannot take it out. i managed to get the little cylinder out but i can't get the spring out. i tried cranking the engine and it makes a sound from the underside of motor. any way i can get this spring out or am i going to have to look into splitting open the motor? thanks again

Try a small pick set to get the spring out. I saw a set at my local Napa. Do not run the engine, you will only make it worse. Try hard, take your time. BTW, if you need to waste it to get it out, that is ok, but be sure to get another one. You can order it online or get it from a Honda dealer. Use the diagram from Bike Bandit to id the part.

thanks

hello thanks alot i will try to do what you said. do you happen to know if the spring just goes straight up or if there is a chance it can get deeper into engine like going sideways inside. i know this description is kinda confusing but thats the only way i can describe. i would really like to get this running i have not rode it in one week. thanks again

hello

hey just wanna say thanks. i could not get that pick set so i improvised and got a piece of wire and put a small hook on the end. i then removed screw at the bottom and put it in trying to pull spring out. after 3 tries...bamm! i got it. fortunately someone gave me a small 49cc 4 wheeler with an identical motor as my chopper and i removed the spring from that one making sure to notice how it all went together. popped everything into chopper and cranked it up. runs great especially after oil change. i appreciate the help. thanks again and have a good day.

that is really good to hear. I wonder if you could get a replacement spring at a hardware store so you can ride the 4-wheeler as well. you can order it from honda if not.
