So i dont wanna trim my axle very much and im trying to keep costs down and not destroy parts if i use bearings i can make this hub fit on this axle. But make it free wheeling if i shortend this hub would it hurt anything? I would have to shorten it off all the front of the hub and a little from the back for it to fit on my axle

If you change anything, you wont have anything for the bearings to seat on. Im guessing its bored out to fit the bearings already? ....

Yea it is the same diamerter all the way through i figure if i shortened it enought to fit it would still have space for bearings ok so i would have the bearings touching to make it fit would that hurt much of anything?

I cut it almost flat on the long side still dont fit so im gonna shorten it a little on the other and hope it fits with a castle nut

Well here is the shortened hub if i tighten the bolt enough i think it will act like an lsd but if the nut stays loose it will act like an open diff i hope

yes it'll hurt to have the bearings touching!

that cutting was a bit ambitious and is in fact a terrible idea.
Ah well, now you need a new hub in just a few days of driving.

the bearings want to be apart by at least one race width in order to properly spread the load.
otherwise chances are the attached rim (especially if it's an offset rim)
the lever will wallow out the hub and the bearing will drop out..
being left with just one supporting bearing and the next curb will break it completely.

BUT you could have (and in fact should have) use a hub for a stepped axle instead.
(if that's the correct size, you can just fit one 1" bearing on one end to achieve the same;
also remember to put a bearing spacer between the two ;)

that way the inner bearing can gently embrace the 1" part while the outer one snuggly wraps around the 3/4" threaded part and also prevents the hub from moving inwards.

There is some space between the two and i thought mabey i could shave the axle a little for enough space to add washers incase one if the bearings lets go but my drive hub is destroyed which we heated and beated the living balls out of the other one. My freind is trying to press the rest of the old axle out of it
