the many mowers guy
it had a retainer not a cap over the end of the valve that stuck up above the retainer
it had a retainer not a cap over the end of the valve that stuck up above the retainer
i did not know that the retainers were different so that was probably the problem. It was an older gx140 head I was mistaken when I said gx160. how much of a difference is there in size?On a honda head, Only the exhaust valve has a lash cap, the little cup that sits above the retainer, or as honda calls it, a rotator cup . The intake valve does not have this, the rocker arm acts directly on the valve.
The intake/ exhaust retainers must not be interchanged, as the exhaust retainer has a bigger hole to accommodate the lash cap.
Also, if the donor honda head was from a newer UT2 motor, the engine used aluminum push rods, with steel tips, of a thicker diameter.
So if the UT2 pushrod guide plate is used with the skinner steel pushrods, the rocker arms can wiggle more, and if anything is not right with the valve keepers, failure is imminent.
I hope this helps, dont get discouraged! Sometimes we all have to pay tuition.
