Ok, I just recently rebuilt my son 212cc none hemi engine. It's on a typical race kart. Engine now has acr billet rod, dynocams 265 camshaft, head shaved .080 and ported, 22lb valve springs, pvl flywheel and a .670 bored carb. Makes great power to 8k, seems like it wants to go higher but I'm not taking it there. But it has a cheap basic clutch and it sucks takin off. Gearing is 62t out back and 13t on clutch. I'd like some options on what people use now that grabs really good. We just use the kart for drag racing 330ft and zipping up n down the street. Dont wanna spend more then around $130,thanks!!!

Noram Ultimate GE is right about in your price range. It's still a centrifugal drum clutch, but it's meant for racing. Pretty high engagement, but there are multiple interchangeable sprocket and spring combinations available for it so you can tweak gear ratios and engagement speeds.

A torque converter would be a riot with that engine if you mostly just do drag racing and bombing around. Might lose some top end due to friction loss, but it's something to consider.

I had a 1 one it and ur right, it did lose some top speed. But that was before I rebuilt the motor lol. Had a nice launch then a slow pick up mid and top end. Now I have a slow launch and awesome mid and top end acceleration. But I wanna play with a decent clutch, I'll take what you said in consideration

Has anyone used a hillard extreme inferno clutch? I haven't heard much about them at all.

I have not personally tried one, but it seems like a nice step between the cheap Max torque SS clutches, and full out racing clutch's.

I would not hesitate.

Plus, most come with 2-3 different springs to try out the box. Unlike a certain torque converter driver people are trying to shill.

Are you wanting to (or have you) messed with the max torque SS clutch?

I was really impressed with the results on our snowmobiles after getting different shoes, cutting shoes and tweaking springs. High engagement, pulls hard on engagement, runs cool etc. And Cheap. I can post up a few videos directly from Max torque on maintenance and "racing clutch" mods if you like

I reached out to Mr Donovan at Max torque via email on their website and he was great. Answered all my questions and gave me some recommendations to try. And just a really neat guy. I ended up with two different weight shoes and cut one set of them in half. I have a cut black spring on one sled and cut green spring on the other. Work mint ( I know not Karts)

To be fair, i run a max torque SS with 3k spring.

Great preforming clutch for the money,

Its just not the best option available, and does have limitations, but still a solid clutch.

I am running 208 Ducar motors with all the goodies as well. billet rod, flywheel, 28lbs springs cromo push rods, reinforced rockers, 280 cam, mildly worked head, bored carb with big jetting etc. Turning 8000 rpm. I was ready to throw a couple hundred at a hillard or dragon etc. Thought I would try this first and all it cost me was a set of $8 black springs and some time. I am VERY happy for our application

this is the mess I started with. Almost brand new on the left and 20 year old on the right. Both sucked as is.

For sure, and get so much better with a little work and testing.

From the research I did I think you would have to jump way up in cost to get significant performance gains for the average user
