Torque Converter issue?

Please forgive me as I have minimal mechanical experience... Im trying to help my son get this gokart driving. It appears to me that the torque converter isnt compressing enough to catch the belt and then turn the wheels. I have taken a few pics and uploaded a video, any help you experts can offer as to what is going wrong and what I can check will be much appreciated. Thank you

I'd start with checking weights in driver side.
That belt also looks completely fried. I'm betting belt and weights sticking

By the looks of the rust I also agree that you need to take the unit off and clean and lube it. It's probally rusted stuck inside.

It's fairly simple. The sheaves should also be nice and polished.

Agreed that you also need a new belt...

I assume someone tried that other sprocket with the belt once
and since I also assume rather big wheels (22"s?) I'd say that put the lid on that belt's coffin.

As mentioned: full maintenance is adiced
(clean everything, sheaves to near mirror finish, dry lube the driver's inside)
and with a new belt you should be good to go.

I thought he was saying washer like a normal washer. I have seen some with washer under bolt then the black steel piece. but yeah idk then.

Be a good time to get familiar with the whole CVT. If the driver requires TLC then it wouldn't hurt to go through the driven.

OK, so now that it is running and driving around.... it is WAYYYY too loud for my neighborhood. Attached is a pic of the straight pipe exhaust setup that was on it when I bought it.

I need a muffler/exhaust to decrease noise that extends towards the rear, not straight up like the standard exhausts that are easy to buy. Any suggestions/ links on what I can get? Im assuming this is a GX240 or 270 clone.

If you have a welder and some fabrication skills I've found that a dirt bike muffler tones it down alot but still sounds great. I wont go into details unless you're game

uhm.. its some cheap chinese thing for 250cc ATVS IIRC.
unfortunately the original link is now dead (7years since then)
but for 20-50 bucks you can find some decent looking 250cc china mufflers on ebay.
Some of which are really close at least visually...
