Hi guys. Im bilding a kart with a mower 3 speed gearbox and using the rear half of the mower frame as part of my frame. As such its a vertical shaft setup for belt with tension clutch to gearbox. Im having trouble finding out if gx parts fit a gxv. Im talking about clones but i think it crosses over? I also thought of just using more cubes for power, an old oppy or twin. But there i cant afford new, so there's that risk, plus i wont get any more top end rpm. Thoughts?

Well with more cubes, you can gear for more top end. Don't need the engine to turn as many RPMs with more displacement. For example, my 212 turns 7500 RPM when I'm doing 50 mph. My 420 turns 5k RPM when doing 50 mph.

It almost looks like gx160 / gx200 stuff might fit on a gxv160. I assume you mean an air filter adapter and exhaust. Sorry, but I cannot say for sure. If you take off the stock stuff, measure the bolt spacing, and show us some pictures... we might be able to help better.

Or call gopowersports and ask them. They might have come across this before.

Im leaning towards an 18.5 oppy I can find them cheap, and there are parts in the tractor pulling world if i get crazy. The torque should let me gear it for speed. My trans has a pretty decent spacing. When it was a mower it would go like 5mph, 7.5mph, 10mph. I plan on quadrupling that.(yes its going to be built to handle it and have a cage and harnesses) I think i will switch to double pulleys or ill tear belts up. Anyone done a setup like this have any tips?

Or shearing something off in your gearbox

Im not really sure how to set it up but i have seen some guys run a centrifugal clutch on the PTO. You can get centrifugal clutches with pulleys on them instead of a sprocket. This may help with the initial lock up and be easier on your transmission.

Well. The 3 speed the JD had is... shot. Im not worried about hooking stuff up, at least i have a general idea. So i see this pro gear 7401 has 4 speeds and reverse for 175, rated for 18hp mower. I can live with that. Here is the current state of my frame. You can see where the engine and trans mount. I have the linkages intact to use the belt as a clutch. Just have to extend and add a pedal. Need a solid rear axle, drive gear, disc brake and pedal etc, i have more than seen here, just finding it all in the barn. I have a seat, steering wheel, wheels and tires, and steering arm kit. No engine yet, just waiting on a steal to pop up.

So. From looking online i think its worth my while to grab one of the 196cc gxv200 clones. If i can at least get a flywheel and cam for it to spin it a little faster id be happy, and although they arent identical as far as part numbers, i think i can machine a gx190 style flywheel to fit. Has anyone even tried before? If im the first so be it, but i would have thought someone wpuld have attempted this before seeing as mower trans are so much cheaper than using dirtbike or atv parts.
