First post! I just bought this gokart as a project for me and my 10 year old son. Step one for me is to identify the engine... Here are a couple pics.

I was told it was a 14hp Honda but Im not sure

I need to start ordering a few parts (a muffler being the first) so any help would be appreciated!

Thanks

well, certainly NOT a Honda, otherwise you wouldn't have asked ;)
Honda has a huuuge HONDA cast into the block right below the now missing tank stating the Model ;)

Anyways it's a Honda clone of sorts..

Almost impossible to tell the size (model 160, 200, 270, 290, 320, 390)
from the pics since the difference in dimensions are rather small
and every other bit was either removed or is basically a replaceable part.

check for markings under the cylinder and under the starter motor

like LF177 or so (which would be a Lifan clone of a Honda gx270)

The numbers stamped on the block would be on the side of the block that faces your seat.

It's a "big block" Honda clone, but could be anything from 270-420cc(or 460, but those aren't very common). Look for a raised pad somewhere on the crankcase engraved with more information. Without that, you would have to pull the head to measure the bore and stroke.

Most likely it is either a 390 or 420.

Genuine Hondas have "Honda," the model number, and the displacement cast right into the block. The clone makers don't invest in dedicated casting dies, so they typically use dot-peen marking or engraving on a smooth area....if they mark it at all.
