On the carburetors that I use there is a power jet.
This jet sits on the top of the air horn. The air entering the carb speeds up as the air horn tapers towards the slide. The increased air velocity yields a lower pressure. This jet is feed by a hose running into the bowl. The fuel needs to be pushed up the hose to get to the jet and into the carb.

When the velocity of the air in the horn increases enough, the pressure in the horn gets lowered to the point where the atmospheric pressure in the bowl (which is vented) can overcome the "head height" and push the fuel up the hose to the jet.

At least this is how I understand that it works. Same concept as the main jet and venturi inside the carb.

What I want to do is cap off the port going into the bowl and gravity (or pump feed) the jet.

So now instead of the fuel flow at the jet being based off atmospheric pressure in the bowl, reduced pressure in the horn, and head height between the bowl and jet....

Fuel flow would be based off the pressure in the line feeding the jet. For gravity, a couple tenths of a psi. For a pump 1-2, 3-5, 4-7 psi (what ever pump I use).


Not sure if I have a question or really understand any of this.
Trying to work out a wet N2O system for my 6Sigma Nitrous Kit.

I was trying to figure out the easiest way to introduce extra fuel. I think a solenoid in the line feeding the jet would be fairly easy. The nitrous would get injected on the other side of the slide (at the manifold pulse fitting). My other idea was trying to use the N2O stream to pick up the extra fuel and introduce them both together though a single port in the carb or manifold. I guess the way an airbrush sprayer works??? But that seems more complicated. Like I would basically have to design a carburetor????

Any ideas.

Almost kinda reminds me of those setups the tuner crowd does with the jet fuel... Or at least as I understood it.... ???

Aparently some guys in the tuner scene, try running jet fuel or avgas in the engine, as a additional boost.
Usually have a pressurized system not unlike a NO2 systems...

They might be more myth than actually done, but crazy guys with money to burn think of interesting ways to do stuff.

Overall, I don't totally know how it works... It sounds similar though...

I guess this is kind of like a water/methanol injection system, but spraying fuel.

Maybe I should look at windshield washer fluid systems.

IIRC, my research said the pressure in those whippits is about 700 psi.
The N2O jet I have is 0.016".

1 psi fuel = 0.021" Fuel Jet
3 psi fuel = 0.016" Fuel Jet
5 psi fuel = 0.014" Fuel Jet
7 psi fuel = 0.013" Fuel Jet

The above all say around 10HP in the calcultor.

For a 0.020" N2O jet with 700 psi...
1 psi fuel = 0.027" Fuel Jet
3 psi fuel = 0.020" Fuel Jet
5 psi fuel = 0.018" Fuel Jet
7 psi fuel = 0.016" Fuel Jet.

All those say about 15HP.

I have a 3-7 psi pump sitting here and I drilled the powerjet out to 0.014".

Drill bit in pin vise.
Pin vise in drill chuck.

Bingo Bango Whammo. Fuel jet is ready!

Those power jets are meant for 2-strokes. I just gravity feed mine where they are supposed to be at. I have 2 on the golf cart which is a gs500e.

I don't usually use the power jet. I cap off the circuit and try to make sure the main jet provides enough fuel alone.

Can you explain what you mean by you "gravity feed them where they are supposed to be at"?

Gravity feed the carb? Or gravity feed the power jet and source the fuel from somewhere else besides the bowl?

Something like this will be my Auxiliary Fuel Tank. It almost looks like an Oil Catch Can. LOL
It has a petcock on the bottom. It has a few holes near the top for a fill hole and and a vent.

It looks like the 1-2 psi pump I have, but this one said 3-7psi on the literature that came with it and says 902716 on the pump.

And then from the pump to a 1/4" NPT x 1/4" Barb Fitting in one end of this solenoid.

Output side of the solenoid will have a 1/4" NPT x barb fitting. Just need to figure out the whole fuel line size and length vs pressure drop and flow rate thing.

I'd like the solenoid as close to the jet as possible. However not sure how a few inches of small diameter tubing will affect the pressure at the jet. I think the pump should be able to provide way more than enough volume of fuel. If I keep everything at 1/4" line but a small section of smaller line feeding the jet, I don't think the pressure drop should be too much.

I've convinced myself that this setup should put me in the ballpark and I can easily tune it by drilling out the jets if needed. If the fuel pressure at the jet is less than 5psi, I can drill the fuel jet bigger. Fuel pressure won't be over 7 psi at the jet, so I won't need any smaller.
If I drill the N2O jet bigger, I can also drill the fuel jet.

Well that would be a bomb.

I'm just talking about making a small pressurized (like 10 psi) tank to deliver the fuel pressure you need for the wet nitrous injection.
But isn't CO2 used to put out fires?
I was also worried about building a bomb, so I left this idea at the door a while ago.
Didn't actually leave it at anyone's door. LOL

The co2 wouldn't come out until the fuel is gone. Like a spray can.

Small co2 containers are used for air shifters and also for turbo cars to close waste gates. You just need a small cylinder/ tank and a regulator. You could probably repurpose an old fire extinguisher..... rat rod go kart style.

Bike tire inflator. 12g disposable cartridges. Plenty of volume there to charge up a few ounces of gas to go with a few grams of nitrous.

In fact, those little squeeze lever go kart nitrous kits are just co2 bike tire inflator with whip-it cartridges instead of co2.
