I bought an AZUSA mini bike kit a couple of years ago. The original intent was to slap it together for weekend parking lot racing at my friend's custom motorcycle shop. Unfortunately, the weekend racing didn't last very long. Between the aviation fueled, heavily modified mini bikes, the lack of proper safety equipment, and the consumption of large amounts of alcohol, people were seriously injured, and the racing stopped.
Even though the racing stopped, I decided to finish the project anyway. I built the bike following the instructions that came with the kit. The only "customizing" I did was powder coating the frame in a dark purple with heavy metal flake, and chrome plating and clear powder coating (for an extra layer of rust protection) the front forks.
I used a 5hp Briggs L-head from a wood chipper which was totally stock except for the mufflerless chrome "drag pipe" that exited between the rear frame rails.
After assembling the mini bike and running it for a while I decided to make it more adult friendly. I have made a couple of modifications, and took a bunch of photos of the rebuilding process along the way. I learned quite a bit, and I thought I would share what I learned with anyone who is interested in making the same changes.

- Larger wheels and tires for clearing obstacles like tree roots and rocks. The sprocket impacted way too many items when I took the bike off-road.
- Converting the drum brake to a disc brake.
- Adding a kickstand.
- Improving the footpeg situation. The clamp-on pegs worked, but not very well.
- An engine rebuild with governor removal.
- Also, there were a couple of cosmetic changes...
