its a little wide atm but i going to fix it im gonna use a 11hp engine that is vertical xD

this belt config is a little more complicated but the belt should run better good cart, what program did you make it on looks nice

If that is to scale that gokart is MASSIVE, or the engine and pulleys are all really small.

For the 90 degree belt, you want the pulleys as big as possible and as far away as possible.

And chain drive is much better than belt drive, from personal experience.

yea i know its a bit big im trying to get the measurements right im working on a new model atm thats more realistic size lol and its google sketch up and yea sorry for double posting i jsut wanted others to see my idea xD


btw thsi program is addicting and time consuming lol

After the belt from the output shaft connects with the jackshaft, I would suggest using a plain cent. clutch with chain.

on that program it's just about impossible to draw chain so he is probably going to use a chain just drew a belt because it's easier

Don't get me wrong, I'm not arguing that a jackshaft isn't the way to go. I'm honestly asking.

When I think jackshaft, I'm thinking a shaft with offset pulleys/sprockets to change ratio or relocate the drive from the line of the output shaft of the engine inline with the output shaft. When I think vertical shaft to horizontal axle, I'm thinking idlers to transition the belt from vertical to horizontal. Which I'm sure begs the question given how I'm not exactly a master of the nomenclature, is that considered a jackshaft?

If so, that clears it right up.

If you're going to have any kind of tension on the chains or belts that jackshaft and pillow block isn't going to be very happy, as the forces pulling on it are in different directions which in turn puts the shaft in single shear. Over time the motor side will pull towards the motor and the other one will pull down, allowing the jackshaft to wiggle.

Two pillowblocks would be a better design, with the gears/pulleys in the middle. You'll get more life out of it.

Another thing, though this may just be a scale issue, twisting a belt 90 degrees generally requires some distance between the two pulleys, otherwise you have lots of problems keeping the belt on while under load. Belts generally "tolerate" twists and reduces their traction on the pulleys, so I mention this just in case you have not thought of this.

Nevermind my belt-twist comment, I didn't see the second picture where you're rolling the belt under the engine with two pulleys. The lack of distance makes more sense now. If you're using "V" belts though, you may have issues because the cross section of a v-belt isn't square, so riding the 90 degree pulleys on the side of the belt might cause them to vibrate at high speed or wear the belt in odd ways.
