I've been thinking of a project that will have a tight turning radius at low to moderate speed (under 30 mph) and have the ability to handle some moderate hills and pastures. This "Scorpion" reverse trike built from plans offered by Spidercarts.com looks interesting. Researching the forum I found a guy a while back who was building one but never posted how it handled etc. I saw one post of his on another thread where he spent too much money building the reverse trike which he said ended up being unstable.

So do you guys know of this Scorpion? Is it unstable? Are reverse trikes best left to street karts because they would be too unstable offroad?

I have a Baja mini bike frame, a Chinese Baja ATV frame and two 150CC buggy frames that I'm looking to cut and graft into something with a tight turning radius and some moderate offload capability. Thanks now.

Depends what you're doing with it. If you're looking for a trail-climbing off roader, there are better choices. As far as cornering goes, it should handle things just fine. I think if there are stability issues, they stem from that big springy back end.

Buy a longer axle. Test it out with the wheels on the inside. If you don't like it, try em on the outside. If you like em on the inside, cut the axle shorter.

Try it out, if you dont like it, the scorpions back end is interchangeable with the tarantula back end. In fact just build the scorpion and the tarantula back end and swap em out anytime you want a 4 wheel kart or 3 wheel reverse trike. Thats one of the great things about this particular kart.
