Now if only those knock off FNR gearboxes would go down to a realistic price.

I bought two. I compared them side by side to the one I paid twice the amount for from a regular karts parts supplier before I knew any better and they are identical. I hate to say it but I thinksome of these places are preying off people that dont know any better. Like anything else I try and shop around. I still use these suppliers for certain parts. They also have advantages. I really like, for instance, better attention to detail since they deal in karts. Like proper hardware for one, axle nuts with the axle etc. Neither of my ebay tq's have the right bolts for a predator. Now that's not worth an extra $60 to me but in other areas it's worth it.

heres what happens:

  • big part store orders 1,000 or so torque converters
  • big factory makes lots of them
  • big part store sells them to the public
  • big part store orders more consistently
  • big factory sees that lots of the parts are selling
  • big factory makes extras and sells to chinaman in california who will gladly make 1$ per sale and knows nothing of the product
  • big part store gets mad
everyone wins, unless quality goes down. But so far, that doesnt seem to be a big issue. I still run genuine comets on my personal stuff, but that doesnt stop me from putting the knock offs on karts that I flip.

Depend on what you're doing...I think racing guys use a clutch.

For just "fun" driving, definitely get a TC!! Way more bottom end and usually higher top end as well

Correctomundo. There are no TAVs used in racing.

No, the top end is gone as the TAV is a parasitic drag; a big time parasitic drag if you're a racer or squeezing every inch of HP/Torque out of these puny industrial engines.

True, but I did say usually, so I left that open for exceptions :p

If you stop the go cart a lot then definitely get the TC. They will idle fine, and a lot of stopping and starting won't it hurt it at all

Just get the TAV and don't look back. Also look into another kart. Two is better than one, it'll be more fun, a little informal competition will result and, and, and...

Off road (hills, ruts, dirt mounds, wildly undulating terrain) is basically what the TAV excels at.

The 3D manual clutch is going to smoke both of the aforementioned setups in all out acceleration, bar none. Just sayin'.
