Happened to stumble across this cart this morning. Picked it up for $250. Guy said he couldn't find a sprocket for it. I figure I would change the entire rear if I couldn't either. Has a Tecumseh 11hp engine with a torque converter. All the tires hold air, Starter and lights all work, doesn't seem like too much to get it back on the road. I've never heard of Carter, but it seems like a pretty sturdy kart with a full suspension on it. We'll see. Guess I caught the bug.

Looks like I spoke prematurely on the starter. Hearing the solenoid kick in, just not turning over. I'll mess with it a bit tomorrow, after that, guessing I'll have to pull the engine. It could use a cleaning and a going through.

I have a 60 tooth sprocket with a 2" bore and what measures to be 3 1/8" bolt pattern. I found a sprocket on the BMI website part number 801230 which is close but would probably have to enlarge the holes so they can mate up to the hub.

I also found a 54 tooth sprocket on gopowersports with the same dimensions part number KD54T41-SP. Given the dilemma of not being a perfect match, and the BMI sprocket is out of stock, will the 54 tooth sprocket work? Thanks for any help.

Starting to find out the more I inspect, the more issues I'm finding. seems the jackshaft is bent a little. Had to cut it to get it out. I also pulled the engine. There are no markings other than Tecumseh. I believe it's only a 6 hp engine based solely on size compared to a B&S 8hp but I know nothing about these engines.

Looking for recommendations on whether to rebuild the Tecumseh or possibly upgrade to the 420 predator. I should have enough room, but will have double check my measurements. It came with a 40 series torque converter, so unsure if the 6hp engine has enough power to push that cart. Am I incorrect in thinking that? Thanks for any input.

Starting to put it back together. I actually found a Carter sprocket. Soon as that arrives, I'll get the axle on given I can get the chain unfrozen.

I bought a 420cc Predator this weekend. HF had a sale and picked it up for under $300.

Looking good, great job the paint. It can be a pain to find Carter sprockets, hubs, and wheels because they had their own bolt pattern and now are out of business.

ps that tecumseh is not a 6 hp, they have smaller block tecumseh engines that were in teh 8-11 hp range, and that has the style of gas tank and air filter to it that these engines have had. I have gone through 2-3 of those, just to fix up and sell with a kart. they are kinda junky (mostly carb issues and valve breather issues), but OHV none the less.

Glad you got a predator though, as it will save you a lot of time and headache.

Thanks for the info. I'm going to keep the predator governor in for now and just get the performance kit from gopowersports. The tecumseh engine runs via pull start, I'll throw it on CL to see if I can get anything for it. I don't think I can sell the Kart. The more I work on it, the more I get attached. Its something for dad to play with while chasing down the kart I built for my son. I have an issue with selling things, hence the 73 challenger, 78 trans am, and 87 grand national in the garage. My wife calls it a sickness, I call it big boy toys. haha.

little bit of headway made. waiting on some parts to modify the exhaust and intake of the new predator 420cc engine I bought. I need these in order to make the engine fit. Put on a light bar, and getting ready to sew the pad covers for the headrests and roll bars.

Nice and what a coincedence! I picked up a very similar carter x a few wks ago for the exact price! Mine has good and bad points. They hit a tree and bent the front right a arms and the arm mounts so this kart is on the surgery table. I can fix it but its not nxt in line. Its a big kart yet the pedals are eat your knees style so im moving them up and extending front bumper.

The good. It has a good running 13hp honda gx390 with the performance kit. Sadly a way undersized torque converter so I just got the monster one from gps set me back 400 w shipping..

Yours looks great! I doubt im going to beautify mine I live and drive on gravel and mud it will be nice n dirt colored lol.
