what size is the motor? the comet 40 series is rated for up to 18hp motors and the 30 series for smaller engines

I doubt that a raptor came without a keyway. Post pics of this engine and ahaft

...well I can clearly see that theres no keyway
but I guess it's so you can tell me what to buy ... so heres the photos as requested.

FYI the previous owner was using a clutch with a set screw and it was just digging into the clutch and thats how it rotated the crankshaft, NOT ideal IMO.

Also does this mean the engine is not a raptor ?
and just a plain briggs 5hp flat head utility thing ?

i'm not sure what the size is.. I can only guess its a raptor or a briggs 5hp.

now are you asking because this will help you figure out how to get a clutch onto my crankshaft or this info will help you tell me where to buy a spark plug?

Short of buying a new crank, your best option is to use the set screws, but use two instead of one because most clutches have two set screws.
.
Also, since your clutch wont need a bolt to hold it in place any more you could put a bolt with a matching thread half way through the shaft!

Here's the spark plug btw..

Could well be simpler to get a 212 predator and go from there, 120 bucks sometimes on sale for 95......If it blows--and they seem pretty tough not a catastrophe.. just a thought....old dog

Pretty sure Doc Sprocket did a write up about cutting your own keyway. Title was something like "No keyway? No problem!"

{EDIT} Google foo to the rescue...

Here it is.

Here's a simple trick to locking the clutch to the shaft without a keyway...

More than likely; A Raptor is a racing engine, specifically designed for karts so, one would think they would all have a keyway shaft...

It's very simple to put raptor stickers or even the shroud on a standard 5hp engine...

yeah... i was sitting in the garage thinking about what to do all after noon ..

predator 212 went through my head but the things i dont like about it is everyone has one, and that dont sound as hot roddy as my flat head..(i know you can mod it but idk...)

also thought of trying to do a shifter cart with a dirt bike motor, even though it doesnt sound aggressive it will be fast

the set screws aren't "setting" any more they slip then the crankshaft starts to spin freely... my plan was maybe to drill holes a little deeper into the shaft so they set screws can go into the holes ... since i dont care about the motor anymore .

I like the sound of a briggs too. Drill hole all way thru & use a grade #8 bolt. Got a steady hand ? cut a key way with a 4" grinder and a 1/16" cut off wheel....OR take crank to machine shop they'll cut one on a vertical mill.....old dog

NO WAY!!! Drill shallow holes and blue Loctite the set- screws, and NOTHING is going anywhere!!!

TAKE IT TO THE BANK!

Ummmm.....( Of course, that's ALSO what I do with a sinking boat.)
