That's the only one I've heard of, I've been asking friends all over the place.

Everybody, I regret to inform you all of a very shocking discovery. In my area of rural western Montana, I walked outside on this fine sunny day, only to find a clear white line across the sky. Quite saddening

Not to worry, it's either the dark one on his way out of the US, or it's some idiot who didn't get the memo. :D

You know, I don't doubt that at the right altitude, right speed, right temp, that there are condensation trails at times.

Beautiful sunny day. Cold as a whatever whatever whatever in a box or something.
I dressed up like that little kid in Christmas story, and did 5mi or so.

The past couple days I've been looking up. Seen many a plane with a short vapor trial. None of that long lingering stuff.

Kinda wierd....

I have a pic of the same I took today. No need to upload it.

I believe there is such a thing as a contrail. They form and quickly disappear due to the suns rays and evaporation.

Then there is something else, and those are the ones that linger for many hours.

Wish I still had the picture I took in college, where the clouds looked like a skull. It reminded me of Eddy's face on the Brave New World album.

From Wikipedia:

Depending on the temperature and humidity at the altitude the contrails form, they may be visible for only a few seconds or minutes, or may persist for hours and spread to be several miles wide, eventually resembling natural cirrus or altocumulus clouds.

That's the point Joe. Our club is the ones responsible for opening up the majority of the trails around here. My uncle has been doing it since the late 70s. There is a few national events that's come through and people from all over the world come to wheel our locale. If we don't find new stuff the old ones get beat down and easier.
There's everything from old mining roads to the gnarliest rock beds to almost straight up water falls. We run the hard and extreme trails. On a 1 to 10 scale we run 9 to 12s.
We also have a 15 year contract with the BLM to run the events.
It's alot of fun. That pic was taken as I was all sorts of hung up. Low on fuel and leaning the wrong way. No gas meant I was dead weight. My uncle was crawling over me to get in front to winch out. Took an hour and a half to go the .6 miles back to the main wash. The whole day was about 10 miles and almost 9 hours.
