Any Monster Moto Kart owners here?

I'm new to go karts so be gentle , I just bought this kart for my 8 year old kid , and we already think it's too slow, there is a screw that limits the throttle but I don't want to remove it ( I won't lie, I tried to remove it but couldn't ) , is it safe to remove? If so will the engine still run at safe RPM's? How about and engine swap? the motor is only a 80cc 2.5 hp so I was thinking a 212 predator from HF should do the trick.

If I end up changing the engine, what else do I need to do? I'm looking for more speed but I want to be able to control how fast he can go until he/I are more comfortable with it.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

The engine on that is the same as the monster moto mini bike. The one I have the crankshaft actually broke in half due to a bad casting. They are too small and parts support is non existent. That said I put a 212 on it and no longer consider it safe for kids. It's a wheelie monster. I would think on a go kart it would be better, but leave the governer in and turn the throttle screw in for a "safe" top end.

If you do switch you will need a 3/4" clutch, but that's about all.

I'm no expert on the rare and exotic, just the rust covered and junky.

I'll wait until something breaks then and then change the engine. What about the throttle screw on the factory engine? is it safe to remove? will it give me more speed? is it safe RPM wise?

This store local to me sells both the mini bike and go kart. The kart is very small framed but both products seem to have a fairly well built body. Over Christmas the mini bike was $250 brand new.

You can remove that throttle screw, it'll be fine. I removed mine before putting a 212 in. You will still be limited to 3600 rpm and the very low torque that engine produces. Honestly, if you can fit a 212 on it, I would. Just gear it right for the speed your kids can handle.

I am not familiar with the kart, but I have the minibike which has the same 79cc engine. Removing the screw allows the throttle to go more, you will get a little more speed. Yes I replaced mine with a predator 212cc from HF. You will need to drill new mounting holes for the predator or put a different mounting plate on and get a 3/4" clutch.

And yes that screw is possibly limiting the throttle to less than 3600,
Play with it and find out. On my 79cc I removed that screw and through it away before I ever started the engine.

You can also use this mounting plate that adapts form the 79cc to the 212cc with just bolts. Its literally a bolt on adapter (the description says it needs drilling, but it doesn't):

For the clutch, something like:

When You get your clutch, make sure it has the right tooth count and pitch size for your kart chain/gear ratio.

I mounted the clutch sprocket side in to balance things as well as possible. The kill switch on the handlebar is very easy to wire in to the low oil box, and do not forget to add plenty of spring to pull back the throttle, and loosen up the nut holding it. Otherwise you'll end up like me on the first start, clinging to the handlebar while it repeatedly launches itself into the air, my three year old was watching, he was a little unsure about a ride after that.

He didnt post any pics, but I dont think he'll have to go through all that. He has the gokart, not the minibike.

True enough. I am looking forward to those little go kart frames hitting craigslist next summer when they actually get used and the motor falls apart. They look perfect for the little kids.

I just installed some led lights and I removed the throttle screw and nothing happened ,it moves more but the rpms stay the same ... what gives???

All that screw does it limit the throw of the throttle position arm, if it was already all the way out (not limiting the throw) then removing it would do nothing. Also, if you replace that engine with a 212, it will also be governed to 3600 rpm. It will have more power, but will have the same top speed unless you alter the governor to get more RPM, or change the gearing.

I would guess it's pretty similar for the 79cc.
