I knew right away that yours was the Indy Car without its body. That thing is basically mint too. I wouldn't change a thing but enhance the Briggs for more power.

I knew there were no 18" Tires involved

But Sid was right that looks like more than 53 teeth. on the axle gear

I would bet a warm flat beer it is 60.

Well, those few pics just negated about 16 posts...

From the pics, we can see that the kart does, in fact, have 10" tall tyres so, gearing is not the culprit; however, if the engine is not tuned correctly, it may not be reaching max RPM, making the kart seem slower; it could also be true that, as you get used to driving the kart, it only feels slower...

The usual "go faster" mods involve removing the governor (note I said remove, not bypass), fitting a hi flow air filter & exhaust & rejetting the carb if necessary...

Wow.. at least now I know why I don't trust any numerical info you gave :lolgoku:

715.. nice I have one myself...(in much worse condition, nevermind the suzuki tank.. the only image I could find atm)
m_tank1.jpg
In fact I have the wheels it's sprocket and a new clutch within reach.
10.5" in diameter with chengshins 4.10's btw..
the original sprocket is #35 with 72 teeth.
cleaning_first_pass.jpg
your's will be different since your clutch is a #40 still;
as chancer said.. more like 60 teeth from the size of it.

the issue you're having more than just likely is the engine, not the gearing!

your carb needs to be cleaned, maybe the adjustement is a bit off;
or as OzFab suggested you only got used to the ~20mph the kart is capable of
and you need to remove the governor to increase the speed by increasing the rpms of the engine.

Now, I assume my butt's bigger than yours ...
since I have a second very similar kart
kartco335.jpg
(just needed a manco drive wheel.... aaanyways),
it came with a 5hp flathead briggs,
BS_engine.jpg
and a 12T clutch and -buckle up- a 48T #35 sprocket
driven_wheel_02.jpg
(tiny little thing.. cute almost) anyways it moved my butt up a rather steep hill
(the clutch is now toast though, hence the new one I got)

I think the POs kid (half my weight perhaps ie. less than 100lbs)
wouldn't have killed that clutch in that setup..
I can't tell for sure of course.. all I can tell for sure, is that it worked for a very short time for me.. :roflol:

BUT keep in mind, that above is a 12T clutch on a 48T #35 (4:1)
your's would be slightly better 10T clutch on 48T #40 (4.8:1)

but let's be honest.. finding a sprocket that matches the Manco drive wheels six-hole pattern is not at all trivial.
much less finding one that is NOT of the manco recommended toothcount.

So yeah.. we're back at.. remove the governor if you want to increase speed, or buy a sprocket blank and have it machined to your bhc.
but first count the teeth of the sprocket you have thoroughly!
and do not reduce by more then ten percent at a time,
otherwise you might end up buying clutch after clutch since you burn them out like I burned mine.

So if you have the money, enjoy a super awesome (in comparison to that Briggs) predator engine which you can mod to give you a 38mph kart easily and more torque for $100. Or, just keep your Briggs (which looks like it's geared just fine) and remove the governor, which is a simple job that includes removing the engine, taking the cover off, plucking out a gear and free speed!!!

so I did some research, and a new engine/removed governor will not work. my main problem is that the gas pedal cable is hooked up to the governor linkage at the base of the engine (will post pic if requested). the predator engines don't have that...

Then you... hook the gas pedal directly to the throttle butterfly.

I find your lack of faith disturbing.

Just for giggles, I revisited several mancorider7 threads/posts to re-familiarize myself with who this guy is.

I suggest getting an avatar pic. Your username is...forgettable. Sorry.
Other members I know right away mainly by their avatar "face" if you will. It makes an imprint.

All things being equal between karts, the Briggs will keep pace with the Predator or Subaru because they both turn a maximum 3600 RPMs stock.

Funny how we have steered clear of that simple fact.

I knew that lol I was confused why they were recommending a more powerful engine. Although, I suppose, it wouldn't cause TOO much damage going slightly over the recommended 3600 RPM range... Maybe some premature wear I guess. Sorry about the profile picture, too. I set one in Tapatalk but forgot to set one in the forum. I'll be sure to do that tomorrow morning. Thanks!
