New from NW Indiana

45 years old and my first go kart. Um, I mean my 10 year old boy's first go kart! Posting 2 pictures of it here. I bought it from a kid less than 1/2 my age and even though I know very little about this, it seems I know at least as much as he does. I'm pretty sure painting the bearings is usually not recommended (as well as everything else)! I think this kart ran before, but not with this engine and not with many of these parts. The throttle cable works, but when you push the pedal it closes the carburetor butterfly! Not the smartest but pretty sure that isn't supposed to happen. I bought a throttle control speed arm hoping that is the missing piece but not sure. The motor starts and runs well if I manually open and close the butterfly. Bought a brake pad and pedal return springs. Thought I'd have it running in hours but it will probably be more like weeks. Anyway glad to be here among people who might be able to help me or just somewhere to look at cool go karts!

Looks like you have a Manco Dingo without its roll cage. Front spindles are spring loaded for some shock absorbing capability. These are good karts--you did well.

Paid $280 for it but like I said it is far from running. Even worse is watching my boy's face as he is dying to drive it but can't yet. He isn't the most mechanically inclined but has paid attention so we have had some bonding and he has learned a couple things. On vacation this week so hope to dive into it next week. I'm sure I will be posting pictures of the throttle and carb as I try to make heads or tails of them. Thanks!

By all means, start another thread in the Go Kart Discussion subforum and use it to address all the issues with the kart. More, larger photos and closeups, etc.

You won't get much input within "Introduce Yourself!" as it's just for intros and gets relatively little traffic.

They don't enlarge much when clicked upon. They're only 338 x 450 pixels. We all know you're on the small side and furthermore are a representative, in good standing, from the Lollipop Guild. Nothing wrong with that. Small people have their place in society...

Done, well at least up and running!! Kid loves it. I ended up getting a new engine from Harbor Freight. The throttle linkage I bought for the predator, but not the original engine so I have a spare if needed later. Over the winter I hope to repaint it and change from brake cable to a rod. Also the throttle cable is barely long enough but works. Thanks for all your help with this. I hope I might be able to help someone down the road.
