Hey Guys

My name is Jason and I am new to the karting world. I recently picked up this beauty and would love to know a bit of info on it. So, I figured this was the best place to start! I would love to know the model#, shaft dimensions, and sprocket size. Sorry if I got any of the terms wrong, but I'm new to this. I know the Kart is a Manco and it looks to be a bit modified already. I know this for sure because they were using a weight bench seat for the back of the kart seat lol, but I already took that off. Any other info would be great too!

It is a Manco indeed.

Looks like a Model 435. Since the typical Manco floor pan decal is intact, look in front of the seat or where the seat used to be for a model no. and serial no. sticker there. Not sure which subvariant it is (best guess is 112, 162 or 191) but you could probably narrow it down by looking HERE.

Sprocket size is easy, just count the teeth.
The front shafts (spindles) are 5/8".
The rear axle--I don't know. Measure it.

You have what is called a "live axle" or 2-wheel drive basically, and it is desirable.
You also have a mechanical disc brake--also desirable.

In all seriousness, though, I think once the electric gurus show up...and get into explaining what is involved, and the costs...you will be abandoning the idea.

Is it going to have at least 300 ft/lb of torque at 0RPM? 350hp? 0-60 in under 3 seconds? If so, I like it

Going Electric would not be total sacrilige here. But just doing it to that Kart! specially after that 30 dollar deal.
There are a few good electric guys here, but as you can see above LOL not that many.
Seems the electric karts just never get finished, and the guys do not stick around.

Electric karts have their place, I plan to attempt to build two over the next two years for the grandkids but, I have to agree, converting a Manco to electric does sound a bit sacrilege...

Having said that, there was an episode of American Restoration where the guys converted an old bumper car to run independent using a modified starter motor

Hahaha. I figured when I said that to expect this kind of aftermath. Let me take it one step further. The intent is to race it in http://www.powerracingseries.org.

Now wait before you get the pitch forks and ban be for life lol.

There are 2 sides of me. The hillbilly side and the tinker, techy side. I grew up in the west part of Terre Haute, where I got my first go kart at the age of 9. I rode this go kart everyday until I was 12. I loved this thing! This is where I learned about engines and the mechanics of the kart. We then moved to the uppity side of town and I had to get rid of it. This is when that side of me started to fade away but is still ingrained which allows me to fix and build things that the rest of my family has no concept of doing.

Now after researching about this kart all day…thanks to hellion for the model number! I have decided to bring back my childhood! I am planning on getting a REAL engine for it, but will probably not work on it until this fall or winter.

This bring me to my next dilemma. I need to make an electric kart by October. I need to find a frame and this Manco frame was way to heavy to use for an electric Kart anyway. Now… If anyone could help a brother out I would greatly appreciate it. I am willing to drive 3-4 hours to get a frame at a decent frame at a decent price. I live around the Indianapolis, IN area.

Lastly do I run diesel or e85 when I get my engine for the Manco….

While a diesel go kart would be interesting, our new guy with a combined hillbilly and techy intellect (no less) seems to think these two fuels are interchangeable.

Corn squeezin's (ethanol) only belong in a bottle so I would recommend 100% gasoline if you can find it.
