Anyone seen a twin engined cart useing CVT's?

I know its maddness & I'll never get around to doing it, but I have 2 of these gx390's (one neededing work, the other working great again) and have been toying with the idea.

I would hate to do it with 2 centrifugals because of the gearing loss and the 13hp cent's aint cheap.

got any pictures? Ideas?

Just strait 1:1 cranks to jackshaft, no freewheelin? or you mean clutched b/c I think it will be a hard to pull start for starters, and if one motor fails I dont even want to think of the mess that would make.

Maybe with some sort of freewheel sprocket on the jackshaft for each crank, then the cvt driver, belt to the driven, then chain to the axel?

I think I need a pen and a napkin maybe a Dr while I'm at it. :rolleyes3:

What if you were to Put a sprockets and chains on both, 1:1, linking the two together, and then just pick one to put the clutch on, with the sprocket behind it.

Direct drive isnt pull started. You make sure its primed and ready to go and have a buddy push you.

OR, What if you ran them right next to eachother, and connected the crank on one directly to the flywheel side of another?

You could even connect them so Each fire opposite of eachother, Instead at the same time.
Then you could even make a big Y-pipe for the intake and use one big carb if you wanted.

I like the link them together idea, but it also falls into the "what if" problem. If motor 1 locks up then something will go wrong quick, lol. I think my only real option is in the below pic, but it would be expensive... so much so that I might as well get a big motor out of a dirt bike or quad just for the price of the clutches. don't get me wrong it would be fun to try Any takers?

I run my modified clone (est. 15-20HP) on my stock 3600RPM (rated) "8HP max" centrifugal clutch.

Cost me $20, holds up good.

Buick, the only way around that is to run belt pulleys on motors to jacksaft and then run clutch from jacksaft to axle. That way if one engine seizes it will burn the belts up without causing any major damage.

Yep thats the safest way,
A chain link system might break the chain before it destroys the second engine though.

I'm still liking the direct link way, so you can have them fire opposite to eachother.

That was one idea, The other was to run a chain between them.

Thats really complicated and would end up making a really fussy twin cyl engine, which you can find in lots of snowmobiles.

There is actually a 90cc Honda on CList right now I have been looking at, but till the house is finished I'm pretty well screwed for workspace, let alone funds. When it’s all finished and I can get back to working for money instead of for free on my house maybe it will fall together. Right now I barely can afford to day dream

Word of advice to those that still live with mom & dad...
If you have the option to build your own house start to finish, regardless of your intelligence or experience, just let someone else do it. I have driven close to 50,000 nails, framed at least 30 walls, hung 28 windows, set 140 sheets of ply, built a 16 step staircase, (you get the point, this could go on forever) and all by myself (dad & my wife have helped with some of the lifting). IT WILL NEVER BE DONE
