It did't snap flush did it?

Just below the first thread, but the threads don't start until about 1/2" below the deck surface.

I'd be scared to try to weld to it, if that is what you were thinking.

People sell blocks for $35 on other forums, but I don't want to do that unless I'm absolutely F'd.

No I was thinking if it's not flush, grab it with vice grips and twist it out lol.

For 6-8mm bolt INSTRUCTIONS says use 5/32" drill bit and #3 left hand extractor from kit.
Or some say try a left hand bit first.

I'll wait for other suggestions. I might be able to weld to it, but might weld to the block as well??

The block is aluminum, you are using MIG Flux Core correct? If so, weld won't stick to the block.

The way it is cracked leaves a high point in the center on the bolt - making it impossible to get my center punch on the center.

When/if you are going to go the welding route.. Cover the bore and area with old gloves or a heavy tarp. Don't need to mess up any more than necessary.
Ground to another stud or the block itself... Shouldn't have to say but.... DO NOT GROUND TO THE CRANK...

Do you have something for your dremel that can reach in there and grind it flat?

My neighbors dog just had puppies. I can steal one, shoot it, and mail it to you if it'll help.

Seriously though, I'd try the left hand drill bit first, an if that didn't work I'd weld a nut to what's left of the bolt.

No, but unless it's seriously peaked he should be able to punch it still.

I liked the dremel idea. I would get a bushing or piece of tubing that just fits the hole, then use a pointed stone that just fits inside that and dimple it that way.

But that's just me...

But this is Bob....we're about to get a three paragraph dissertation on broken bolt removal....

The only thing he hits hard is research. Now....his women on the other hand....

You should've told me that before I did it. I deal with a lot of broken bolts and have built up a broken bolt enough to weld a nut to it more than once. I'm a pretty good welder with a pretty good welder though.

Ahhhh...gotcha! So you basically just build a vertical bead until you are at the surface and then add the nut! I'm such a dummy sometimes!

Sometimes us dummies need to have things explained! But...at least I'm a dummy that listens and learns.

It's basically the same concept as bridging a gap that doesn't fit well. Tack, Tack on top, Tack on top.

Well I used the bushing like thing that positions the gasket to protect something. (Dowel pin?)

I used a carbide burr to get up in there.

Glad I'm late for work so I don't rush and mess this up.
Borrowed a camera.
Seems more workable now.

Even considered drilling then cutting off a drill bit. Putting a nut around the remaining drill bit, and then welding bolt, the bit, and the nut.
