Hi all, working on this engine I just acquired with a dingo kart. I got it running but fuel was draining out of the carb when I shut it off. I bought some new orings, seat, needle, gasket for the carb today so that should fix that problem. It actually ran really well despite the cracked and missing seat and orings. Me real question is do I need all the missing linkage to make this engine run properly? The PO removed the governor and all the linkage as you can see in the pictures. Can I simply hook the throttle cable up to the carb butterfly and hit the trails? Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

Wow, that's a lot of reading! Great articles though. I can hear a noise inside the crankcase when I move the linkage for the governor back and forth so I'm assuming the internals are still there. Going to tear into it tomorrow and I'll let you know how I make out. Thanks

Actually....you can check without cracking it open...just. start it up...grab what's left outside and turn it to one side ....then rev the engine...then turn it the other way and rev the engine...if the shaft doesn't twist in your fingers....the gear is gone...no worries!

Okay, I'm getting there. I've got the cover off and see this plastic gear in the attached picture number 1. The gear was already missing three teeth which I found in the bottom of the crankcase. Is it just the plastic gear that I need to remove or the shaft that it sits on as well? There is also a shaft near the cam shaft that goes through the side of the block and was connected to the governor linkage. Does this metal shaft need to come out as well?

Oh. Well usually we remove all that crap. I am just not sure on your model either. The only thing that concerns me is you said something about a rod that attached to the cam and then out the block. I dont want to give out bad info.
Somebody will pop in soon that knows.

No worries, I appreciate all the advice. The rod I was speaking of wasn't actually attached to the cam just near that cam. It's the rod that attaches to the external Governor linkage.

Yeah that is the one we remove and then plug the hole.

Everybody should take note that teeth were already missing! From the plastic gear!:smiley_omg:

Thanks for your help everyone, Governor linkage is all removed and she's running like a charm. Haven't road tested it yet, it'll have to be tomorrow. Just a couple of tips for anyone else who attempt this. After I put everything back together I turned the engine over and had no compression. After searching for other posts here I found out that the push rod was not Seated on the rocker arm.. I imagine this is a fairly common complication when putting pushrods back in. Oh yeah and make sure you plug that hole in the crankcase that you removed the governor linkage from. I'm currently rubbing down my legs with Citrus orange hand cleaner to get the oil off!
