Port intake and exhaust, Run a straightpipe and You could mill the head down a bit for more compression.

Put on a aftermarket aircleaner, rejet the carb and install a 5 deg key in the flywheel.

Ahhhh... no it wont. It's a good idea, but won't have THAT big of an effect. A few tenths of a horsepower, maybe.

All ideas so far are good ones, just don't expect to get more than about 7hp from accessories and polishing.

A little?
Getting that kind of power out of a 5hp Tec block would require a lot more than a pipe or a disconnected gov.
If it were that easy to get that kind of power boost out of removing gov, camshaft grinders would be out of business...starting a couple of decades ago.

I read a writeup on a 6.5 hp blue clone motor, where the author removed the governor and did little else outside adding a less restrictive air filter and exhaust header. He got over 12 hp out of it by doing just that. I figured it might help out on a tec 5 also.

12HP, I doubt it.

The clones do gain better than some engines because they flow good.

I have a clone engine, and it's reported with better intake and removed governor, you get around 8HP @ 5200RPM.

3600 is not enough, it's nice to be able to float it higher, as long as it's a good engine, it won't blow, and don't hold max for way too long. I've never had a problem running 5000+ And IMO 4000-4500 is a good safe high RPM range.

I doubt the tecumseh will have any problem with higher RPM's, just be responsible about it. Those kind of mods like intake, exhaust, and governor removal will help on just about every engine really.

Good luck with the mods! It's nice to get a little more out of it.

The Racers at heymow Do port polishing, straight pipes, better intake filter, and sometimes, Better carbs, and they either mill the heads down, or use heads of a slightly smaller engine. They do all kinds other stuff too.

Removing the gov doesn't increase HP, as Hp is a direct conversion from torque, However it increases RPM
