I thought I saw a sticky about gaskets but can't find it now?

Is this to be used instead of or with normal gasket (intake to Carb Adapter and Side Cover)? I don't have those gaskets. Will make them if this won't work alone. I have exhaust gasket.

Should I use this with 0.036 Multi layer steel head gasket? It looks like a stack (3) of individual gaskets with two rivets connecting them.

Is this the correct type/color/temp for all the above applications??

Thanks in advance.

Hey Bob....that's RTV....you're good to go....(just remember....you're supposed to assemble in under 10 minutes....so put off getting that beer until it's reassembled.

Head Gasket came with no instructions, I assuming not to use on Head Gasket?

Here's a quote about using a copper spray adhesive with MLS gasket.

http://www.dsmtuners.com/threads/why-not-to-spray-mls-headgaskets-discuss.212664/

BBBBBUUUUUUTTTTTT..... Here's the problem. IT'S GLUE!!!! What happens when you glue something? IT DON'T MOVE and that's exactly what we want an MLS headgasket to do. If the bottom side of the gasket is glued to the block and the top is glued to the head then you've only got one or two more surfaces that help that transittion of heat. If you glue it in place then you've just reduced the abilities of a pretty well designed headgasket. So please put down the rattle can and step away!!
Thanks for not falling asleep,

Ok. I'm going to try to get it reassembled tomorrow and didn't want to order and wait for new gaskets. Got plasigauge and piston ring compressor. Have new head gasket, and old never used exhaust gasket. The side cover gasket is still in one piece but has been opened and closed a half dozen times. Thanks again! Glad you're back!

Let me get this straight...
You want to use some kind of goop to use as a gasket instead of using a gasket as intended?
Or do you want to use gasket goop on the gasket to somehow supplement it?

That "goop" is now used in place of gaskets on many assembly lines for automobiles engines. I think it'll be ok where he wants to use it....

Actually, unless I'm mistaken....some newer engines just don't have gaskets in certain areas!

I was considering using goop instead of intake, side, and valve cover. I was asking if I should supplement head gasket with it

Yeah...I don't give a crap....but you can use it INSTEAD. of gaskets in those areas....mmm....the head....welll....you CAN use the copper seal....but...hate to say it....IT'S LIKE TEMPTING FATE! I just don't use stuff like that unless I see a reason....say the head was off awhile and got pitted?

---------- Post added at 09:46 PM ---------- Previous post was at 09:36 PM ----------

Listen.....I've done that crap since I was nine years old....I couldn't even finish watching that video because at nine I knew how to make gaskets better....and frigging BUY GASKET MATERIAL! SERIOUSLY?

And you're offering THIS CRAP up instead of RTV? I know half the world is just stupid and crazy....I was hoping not here!

What,CARDBOARD instead of RTV? Give me a break! !!!!

---------- Post added at 10:02 PM ---------- Previous post was at 09:46 PM ----------

Ever wonder what a ball peen hammer was for? Well
..you put gasket material over what you want to make a gasket for.....and you hit over the bolt holes with the ball peen hammer....

Then you aligned it with bolts and used the other end of the hammer to form the gasket .

THINK ABOUT IT!!!!! Better yet TRY it....Some of the simplest, best things are getting lost....but I'll tell ya I'd rather gasket making get lost to RTV than a dipstick way pf making it with CARDBOARD!

Ok.... So Would you reuse the original one that he says is in good condition but has been apart half a dozen times. And if so with or without RTV.
and Jeeze relax, I just found that link in the sticky section and It said "how to make a gasket". I assumed (I know) it was better info.

NO OFFENSE....BUT....:roflol::roflol::roflol::backtotopic:

Awww....who was talking about reusing a gasket? Yeah ...then you use some PERMATEX...whatever....I must have missed that...he DID say something about a HEAD gasket ...and that's basically the worst idea outside of moving to California!

BUT!!!!Speaking of something funny when you think about it....(and I'm for sure guilty of this) ....UMMMM.... when you rebuild a motor....a lot of head gasket manufacturers tell you to retorque the heads after break in....yeah...uh huh...I'm putting rubber down...not reWRENCHING crap!

Thanks for the input guys. Seems like a discussion that doesn't have a unanimous answer. I'll bet multiple materials can work. I'll try for myself and learn the only way that will satisfy myself. No need to get upset. All input has been very helpful. Opposing views help me learn.

Be careful who you gang up on. For the past 8 weeks I have been training these pigeons that just showed up one day. They are skilled in martial arts now

Lol. I've sent one to TX and one to Canada too. Just forget about them and get comfortable.

My pigeons only carry propaganda promoting independent thinking and questioning tradition. It's important to only seek the info you need instead of absorbing skewed info offered to serve the agenda of another.
