predator engine 212cc oil

hi guys I have question I'm using mobil 1 extended performance 15,000 mile of guaranteed protection 10w-30 advanced full synthetic motor oil on my predator engine 212cc is that ok or should I change the oil to a different kind?

Hopefully, you put that in AFTER break-in.

There are better oils you can run....a lot of folks swear at Mobile One, not by it.

Forgive my ignorance, but why do you hope he put it in after break in? Cost? Just wondering because I have been using whatever cheap 10W30 I could find during break in, then switch to more expensive stuff after. I figure it's not going to be in the engine long enough to matter.

Because synthetic oil will not allow the rings to seat properly...so...you always use dino oil until after break-in.

I guess that would be a good question....IF... you could supply some facts..?

IDK.... But why do apples look different from oranges? Why did the chicken cross the road? ...or....did it come before the egg? Maybe car engines aren't industrial engines? Maybe you don't have a clue what you're talking about....maybe they are already broke in?....Why don't electric motors need to be broken in? How long is a piece of string?

:backtotopic: Could have made this simpler: read the manual. The information given was for the question asked and certainly applies to not only that question...but many other industrial engines...and any freshly rebuild internal combustion gasoline engines....

Now.....any more questions?

Because no new engines come with synthetic in them from the factory. :thumbsup: If they do it is because the engines are run long enough to break them in first at the engine assembly plant. I have had many bad experiences with Mobil 1 and air cooled engines, mostly flat cams and valve train wear. Amsoil, Torco, Royal Purple, and Redline not so, I do add a little extra zzdp zinc to all oils.

You are wrong on both counts! I worked in GM Engineering for 33 years and know what I am talking about. I also run nothing but Mobil 1 in air cooled engines and have had no problems.

In your experience at the GM plant, Do they even run test or "break in" the engines in new cars off the assembly line? I have always wondered this.

Most engines are run by air pressure to test them. They are run at the end of the assembly line on test rollers before the vehicle is driven to the loading area, a very limited run time. For rings to seat they must be subjected to high cylinder pressures. Today's rings generally break in quickly with a varying load that driving gives them. The rings break in just fine with synthetic oils. Some engines will be pulled off line for a quality test run but this is not for the purpose of break in although the rings are well on their way to a proper seal when this test is completed.

So... The jack-wad that buys a new mustang and the first day just drives the crap out of it to impress his friends, is probably NOT "breaking in" his engine in proper manner.

The guy with the Mustang is probably fine, the poor soul that reads this thread and thinks that what modern American automobile manufacturers do apples to Chinese one cylinder engines....not so much.

Maybe we should talk about what ASSEMBLY LUBES are used , apples and oranges, what GM does isn't exactly germain to small engines....(or rebuilt ones)....

It's not necessary to drive the crap out of a new engine to seat the rings! You can't baby the engine though because the necessary cylinder pressure may not be developed. You need to load the engine for a short time and then coast or remove the load and then repeat the process. Accelerating from 20 to 60 mph at about three quarters throttle and coasting to 20 again and repeating the process about 10 to 20 times will seat a lot of rings. Not everyone can do this and that is why manufactures tell you to vary the speed for the first few miles. Breaking in rings on a car is just like a Chinese single cylinder engine assuming both engines are machined to precise tolerances. When I ran new engines on a dyno we ran short load cycles to seat the rings and when the engines were given a leak down test and closely examined the rings were seated, and all this on synthetic oil! When rebuilding an engine if the same careful attention to details is applied as when the engine was new there is no difference in the results.

You can talk a GM's all day....and I'm not going to argue with you....MUCH.....

But when you start making blanket statements like above....you lose what little credibility I give you for knowing what you're talking about at all....

Soooooo.....let's just take a look ....."ASSUMING": Yeah.....we all know about that word.....Well.....here's a news flash for ya chief: Chinese industrial engines are NOT built to the same tolerances....period. (However, the CATALYTIC CONVERTERS. they come with are much more tolerant of additives.....hence they AREN'T limited to running those funny designer oils).

We're, usually, a bit more diplomatic around here, strong words like that usually end with someone being banned; please try to be a bit more civil ;)

Opinions are like noses, everyone has one but, they're all different; each to their own...
