Hi guys , i have a chance to get a kart like the one in the pic below, was hoping someone might know about what it might be worth. Im going to look at it saturday, he said he thought his was a narrow hoop but wasn't sure. And he did paint it yellow , he said it was red originally. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks cole

What ever you are willing to pay for it.

Denny

Well hes asking $600 for it, and its supposed to be all original except the paint, minus the engine. I have seen the kart before but it wasn't for sale then, i know the rupp turbin wheels would bring around $500 alone, i dont doubt its worth what hes asking, just wondering what it might be worth finished back to original.

If 'that' is the same exact frame you're getting(mind you, go karts can look pretty similar!!!)... looks to be a "Lancer" to me. Maybe a 'sprint' model? Im no Pro at IDing a frame... but seems to me Ive cut one of those up before... and then got chastised for cutting up an antique vintage... lol.

What's it worth? Well, if you put at engine on it and gear it to not burn up a clutch... and you have fun driving it... it's value is monetary and technically obsolete($0~$250 as seen in pic w/ all the parts)... that is unless you're attempting to "restore" it back to it's vintage yrs... then the value would be of great knowledge... (but that would be a better question for a 'vintage' kart forum IMO... but someone here 'may' know a roundabout value).

The kart in the pic is an A Bone.
If the kart you're looking at has 4 good turbines, a good seat, is intact structurally and is complete with no parts needing replacement, that's not an unreasonable asking price.
Doesn't mean you can't try to get it for less, but not unreasonable.
I've seen more asked, and occasionally seen one at a give away price.
Depends on if the seller knows what he has.
Also depends if to the seller "vintage" means "big bucks" whether it's worth it or not.
To "restore" to original means a Mac or West Bend motor.
A decent one will be at least $400.
The correct clutch is another couple hundred.
Also depends on if you want it "all correct parts" or "like new" when you're done, that'll effect your costs.
Everything you'd need is available from Robert Stanton (Robron, Inc.)
As to it's finish "worth" - depends on the level you restore it to and what the market bears.
Complete restores can go for up to several grand.
Just remember, like restoring anything else, you can end up with as much or more in it as you could sell it for.

For comparison, here are some of the prices for parts for the kart you're looking at:
Rupp Turbines (set of 4) $100 per wheel for used ones in good shape, $500+ for NOS
Correct seat- good used one (if you can find a good used one ) - at least $100, a new one at least $250
Seat back tank - used, min.$100 if you find the right guy. New, chrome at least $300.
Then there's the motor mount you'll need for a 2 stroke, budget $75 minimum.
Restoring ain't cheap.

Lancer is correct.. that's a Rupp (Lancer) A-Bone.. narrow hoop means -what was that? 65?- or later.

minus engine is a bummer though...

if it comes with the original wheels (Turbines as you see on the Pic you posted)
the 600 are almost justified if it's in good unrestored condition.

without wheels, your down to 300 already,
so check the wheels for cracks (cast aluminium... one hard hit and they go)
those are likely the most expensive parts on the whole kart, well since you don't get the original engine.
Oh.. make sure you get the engine mounting plate.
those are pretty hard to find as an original too.

The fully restored perfect condition kart on the Pic you posted
is about a full k depending on demand I'd say anything from 950-1100 as it sits.

I'm not sure.. I think 600 is a lot of money but without seeing the actual kart in question,
I can't tell.

It might as well be a RobRon (recent replicas of the Rupp A-Bone) well made karts, original tooling yadda yadda.. still not as expensive as an original from the 60s ;)
Or worse..
it can be a 70s cheapo replica Clark? (man, my brain isn't serving me well today) they look utterly identical until you measure the thing.

[EDIT]
dang, not only lack of memories also lack of speed ... today is not going to be fun :(

Morning, Sid!

---------- Post added at 07:53 AM ---------- Previous post was at 07:51 AM ----------

Check to see if the floor pan is welded or bolted in.
A Bone had a welded plate, Lancer was bolt in.

Sounds like you found a good one, looking forward to seeing the pics.
If you can get it like you want it for $1500 total, I'd say you did good.
If you break even selling it, you did even better! ;)
You don't want to know what I'll have in my Superdart when it's done....trust me, if I ever sell it I ain't breaking even by a long shot!
But that's ok.

Yeah i agree , i wanted this kart the first time i seen it a couple years ago, he has it sitting in his living room, been there for like 13 years now, he know what he has is worth something, but he has never know exactly what he has. I pegged us as the A-Bone first time i seen just didnt say anything cause i wasent sure. But all the research shows yo be just that, I've always wanted one too. Like to have the twin engine kart but dont see that happening anytime soon. I just wish he didnt paint it. Lol

You can get the motor mount tab that goes on the frame from Robert, as well as another swing mount.
Put it on the other side and you got a twin West Bend A Bone....'course that means another $300
clutch!

Just remember you'll need both engines to have the crankshaft stub facing inwards.
You've got a brake drum on one side so you can't put a sprocket there if the stub faces outwards.

So either way i have to hav one right side drive engine correct? I mean im not going to get away without one right ?

I'd say yes, I'm pretty sure the brake drum takes up the space where the sprocket would go if the stub is on the left.
The stub isn't long enough to put the sprocket outside of the drum.
My advice would be to get the tab from Robert and put it on the frame so it's there before you paint or powdercoat.
Then see if you can trade an engine you have for what you need, or sell it and buy the right one.
In the meantime enjoy the **** out of a single engine A Bone!
My Superdart has the tabs for dual engines, but as of now my driving skills aren't where they should be for two motors.
Once yours is runnable there are vintage kart meets all over the country where you can drive it.
You don't want to tear it up riding around in the yard!

Yeah that all makes sense, and yep your right this kart wont be rode around the yard, the meets your talking about is what i want to do with it after i get paint and things done, i am seriously thinking about powder coating it too. I have a guy about a mile from my house that has his own powder coating business there behind his house.

I know you didn't mean anything by it, but Pop's 85, has Alzheimers, and is living with my wife and I.
Hence the hold up on the kart.0
