I have been doing my research on all things kart....

I have a lil two seater with 6.5 hp central machinery engine one wheel spinner with band brakes

and I am a cheap a__ as you can see by my name

I want to put a live axle on my kart and put a lil bit more pep in the engine..... also suggestions on tires for offroading.... it will be a both on and offroad and I don't mind taking stuff on and off for the two I didn't know if there was some tires that I could use on the hf cheapos

here are a couple pics of my kart

Nice exhaust pipe, Looks rather large. All you gotta do to find that is go to a shopping center parking lot with a hacksaw. Cheapest place for auto parts:roflol: :roflol: :roflol: :roflol:

how cheap a__???
if your wanting replacement tyres, heres a link to a link. give credit to brandenm
if you are making it live axle you may want to consider disc brakes (i cant tell what you have now). here are some mecanical disc brakes (the cheaper option)

what you could consider getting:
wheels/ tyres/ rims (if you bought new wheels, up to $50ish/ piece)
sprocket (you should be able to use the one you have already,, but you would need a sprocket carrier/ holder)
disc brakes ($40-$70 ish)
axle (i used 30mm keyed solid bar, $10, usually $40-$60)
bearings (got my pillow bearings for $20)

or you could buy a complete live axle

i spent about $180 on mine including wheels and hydraulic brakes, but you could getit cheaper

It was what I had laying around so I put it on there

nice, but why do you need a live axel? offroad?

I wanted the live axle so that I would not be running just one wheel get more power to the ground... what lil I have

Edit... also I want the most control cause I don't want to fall of a cliff in the trails in colorado springs just a lil to high for me lol

they are just dirt trails so that is why I'm not putting any suspension of any type

thank you r_chez for the links

You have to do a lot of mods to use that kart off road. Not only do you need a live axle, but you will also need a cvt. And for performance a larger engine, if you plan on 2 in the kart. You also have to brace that exhaust or you will brake the cyl, or pull out the threads. Straighten the tie rods and set the toe. The frame also looks light for a off road 2 seat it will most likely flex and eventually brake.

The 36 in axle is too short and the 44 in is too big
but the 38 in is not for on road use what do you guys think about which axle I should get I wanted to keep the wide base on the back but if you think that the 36 in would be ok then I will just go with that I like those mechanical brakes they are cheap and look good for what I will be doing

I was told that the keyed axle is better because you can move the engine, brake calper....where ever you want on the axle... but i don't really know

also the engine I have is it a clone....what parts would i have to buy parts for it?

Are you still able to put on the old rims? If you haven't cut it up yet. What’s the measurement from center -to- center on the rear tires/rims?

Edit: Changed my mind... lol

What’s the measurement center -to- center on the front tires/rims?
What’s the width of the frame (not the stubs, just the square) on the back?

ok the front rims and the right rear rim is 5 in from lip to lip so.... 2 1/2 from center to lip

drive rim is 6 1/8 in from lip to lip and 3 1/16 from center to lip

the full length without including the engine mount is 20 1/2 on the boxed in area in the back not the axle itself

Sorry it was late when I asked those questions, lol...

Your rear axel length will be dependent on your wheel/tire size in the rear, if you want to keep them inline with the front (pic 1). Really the best way to figure it out would be to get your tires/wheels first and then build your way in. My golf cart rims and tires on my kart are 4.5" (give or take) from inside of hub to edge of tire (pic 2 & 2b) & 8.5” ish wide. So to keep the track/width close to the same front and the back (pic 1) the front wheels which are smaller will be farther out (pic 1).

I think you best bet will be to measure outside to outside on the front end.
For example mine is 46.5”

Then get the measurement of your rear rims and tires Hub to Outside.
Mine is 4.5”

So that’s 2 wheels
4.5” + 4.5” = 9”

So then 46.5” – 9” = 37.5”.

I would need at least a 37.5” axel (that’s without the ¾” step downs for the nyloc) for my rear wheels to match the fronts (outside to outside).

Then from that you can design your rear frame section. To beef it up I would build a whole new rear half (square) and then gusset it in everywhere (like to those upper side rails, and maybe to the back of the seat if it’s welded in).
