I have a predator 212cc hemi that already has an open cone filter, 3 stage j pipe header, 8 degree timing advance, gx140 emulsion tube, and .38 main jet.

I've also taken the gov screw out, and put a zip tie in the spring. As well as cut every other fan blade off and gapped plug to .45

It turns about 5500 rpm.

I'm planning to put in a 0.10 steel viton head gasket on in place of the stock 0.45 fiber one to up the compression.

Also, going to install a dyno cl-1 improved cam. Which says it is for use with stock valve springs.

Considering replacing my sp carb with a stock ruixing as I've heard the sp ones are smaller .575, and the ruixing is .615 supposedly. Going to measure mine first though as I know that there is a lot of variance in the predators from one to the next.

My question is , do you think I'll have piston to valve clearance issues and is it likely I'll have to rejet?

Basically I removed the screw in the governer linkage externally, and took two zip ties cut one end off one, slipped the full one in the gov spring, and slid the end of the other onto the full one. Tightened it till there was an 1/8 on either side of the spring.

When you hold wide open throttle, it stops the surging of the governer which is caused by the spring tensioning and untensioning.

Been running multiple engines like that for months now and hard. 50mph and on up. Based on mph, tires, speeds reached, the engine is turning 5500 rpm.

Here's a video of someone doing it skip to 2:40...

When I pull the sidecover off to install the cam I'll let you know if I find any issues with the governer.

Basically, im cheap and can't afford the flywheel and rod right now. So I'm working around that running 5500 rpm and below, while retaining the gov itself, and using a cam that makes power in that range.

Incorrect; governor surging is usually caused by a lean condition; on rare occasions it can also be caused by a rich condition; what colour is the electrode on the spark plug?

It's not a matter of if but, when the governor self destructs, it will likely take the engine with it...

Can you afford a new engine?

My spark plugs fine. I guess I was mistaken though. I thought that the governor when it comes up against the set rpm pulls the throttle back, and then releases after a second and lets you get throttle again. And when you hold the throttle open for a sustained period that creates a sort of "surging" as it does that over and over in a cycle. Maybe I used the wrong words in my description.

A new engine from harbor freight is $100.00 same cost as the flywheel, but not including the rod.

I'll make sure in the future when asking any questions to write in my description that my engine has a billet flywheel, billet rod, governor removed properly with a bolt in it's place, and a bolt in the oil sensors place. Then proceed to ask the actual question I need an answer to.
