I heard that you should add an extra spring from the throttle to somewhere else on the engine for added safety. I got a spring and put it from where the throttle cable stop is too the muffle. Is this safe? The muffler will get very hot so I'm not sure if it's safe to have the spring wrapped around it. Also, would it effect the operation of the muffler. If it's not safe, what other options are there.
Thanks!

Its not that its NOT safe... but the extreme heat/rougher surface, may shorten the lifespan of the hook at the end. Ive had return springs break on me... not the best thing to happen when flyin down the street doin 50mph and you suddenly cant decelerate by pedal (>.<)... almost as bad a watching a 1 wheel peeler yank itself outta your grip upon startup, stuck at WoT and do a gyroscope rotation in a parking lot next to a primary road, during rush hour in 1 direction and $50k-$150K valued cars in another... been there!

All i did was drill a hole in the outer cover of the muffler and put the spring in it, There is like a casing around the muffler, which is not the actual muffler. So far it has been working.

About how long would you say it will last before breaking and when it's on its way out will it look really beat up?

All depends on the spring strength/gauge/length/climate/abuse/etc... TOOO many variables to say.... the majority of my springs have lasted a yr or so... but I REALLY couldnt say for yours, let alone mine... so IMHO, keeping it away from ANY harm is better than throwing it directly into it...

No... alas i left my phone in the shop... course i had time to go get it... but had future worries at the time.

Yea 5:1 on 10"s on a frame that may have weighted 150lbs... full throttle ... it built up enough momentum that all the wheels were off the ground cept the powered wheel (gyroscope). However u woulda never seen it due to the tire and the engine both plowing out bellows of white smoke... for bout 4 mins... then luckily it shot towards the only safe direction... into a knee high link fence... square into one of the support poles... it endedup 20yds away from where it was cemented into pavement .
