Ok, so I noted this issue in another post but figured I should dedicate a post to it.

My yard dog 6203 (new to me) 'hops, creeps and jumps' at idle. I've messed with the idle and that doesn't do it. The belt seems correct (according to the manual).

Here are some pics. Ideas? Thanks!!!

belt and tc looking good (well, some cleaning...;))
but the driver isn't stuck neither is it grabbing the belt as it sits.

One thing that can cause this is still your driver;
more precisely the spring.
remove the driver and inspect the springs.
unhook the ends, and make sure they snap back straight and measure 7 7/8" in length.

if they're longer, or do not end up perfectly straight,
they'll need to be replaced.

if they do, post pics, but it shouldn't be a TC problem.

So back to the idle.. are you sure, the throttle cable isn't causing the engine to rev too high at idle?
We've seen that quite often already, so;
just to be 100% sure, unhook the throttle cable from the engine and set your idle speed;
reattach throttle cable at a proper tension/length ;)

Good info. Thanks.

The reason I said I don't think it's the idol is because even when I have it set very low, like just about stalling, it will still do it. When I get a chance I will take it apart and look at the springs. Thanks!

the springs are rather long lasting to my best knowledge... so it'd be strange if they cause this..

but maybe one broke for some reason, or just slipped off the weights *shrugs*
for new garter springs check mfgsupply
(the blue ones are the stock springs!)

maybe its because you have a 20 series driver? check the drive and driven unit. they should have the same angle on the sheaves.

If i remember correctly, that model had a 30 series with 7" driven.

Good eye Grant!
series 20 driver... indeed possible;
haven't noticed that :(
(just looked at last pic closely to read the number tbh)
Driven is a series30 though and so is the belt...

Dang... I'm afraid that means you need to either buy a new series30 driver, or convert your series20 to a series30..
needed
the fixed sheave
and the moveable sheave
(that's the 3/4" models)
the clover hub, the outer bell and the weights and garter springs are identical for all I know.
So are the washers, the bushings and other small parts.

Ok, let's see if this works:

What he's trying to say equates to "you're trying to use an exhaust manifold from a 4 cylinder engine on a 6 cylinder engine, it simply won't work; you need to either find a 4 cylinder engine to match the manifold or a 6 cylinder manifold to suit the engine..."

...Or did I just confuse you more?

Lol. No it helps.

I guess the question now is, what's the most economical way to solve this...ie: what do I buy to fix this that won't make me totally upside down on this project?

Thanks guys!

That's easy..
the cheapest way is to find a used comet series 30 driver somewhere...
as long as the sheaves are good, everything else can be pretty much dead
(say 10-20 bucks should do the trick; upwards of $40, personally I would not buy it)

next in line would be a clone driver for a series 30 (smae thing, but chinese copy)
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Go-kart-par...5957-219552-/111687636406?hash=item1a011a15b6

or buy the two sheaves I linked above;
but make sure they'll fit first!
i.e. measure the PTO shaft of the engine (should be 3/4") or the ones I linked will not match.
(that's roughly 50 bucks)
in principle you could also buy the 40USD driver and take it's sheaves of course.

and lastly...you could also try to find an original driver clutch new but that'll set you back 80 bucks or more...

Yeah....just think if someone lived next door to you....and would have given you one for free.....dipstick! !!!:oops:

I'm not looking for freebies, new buddies or people to fix stuff for me. Was just seeking some advice.

For those who actually helped, thanks a million, gave the kart to my son today and he absolutely loved it.

Thanks again!
