Gotcha! I just tried some washers under the engine and the kink in pic #1 went away. I think you guys got me on the right track. Thanks Poboy and the rest of you. I was starting to pull out my hair. Gonna take a while to remember all this little stuff that didn't mess with me 40 years ago.

Ok guys, bear with the old guy Noob just a little more. I have tried the suggestions you guys gave me and here are some more pics of what I have. I still have snapping, klunking and grinding sounds out of the chain, loose or tight. Forgive me but I can't see it. any ideas. Crappy chain maybe? Or am I just getting too old to do this sort of thing?

You have a bent link...(I thought I saw it one of the pics)....the fact that it's just noisy and clunky, but not throwing it...means you pretty much have your alignment issues under control....but it bent a link earlier when it threw the chain...you could just find the bad link...(or two)...and remove them...or...just get a new chain for a few bucks a foot....

Wrap a string around what you have and then measure the length of it straightened out...BMI sells chain by the foot....

Your local TSC should have 10' sections for about $15-$20 if you're in a hurry...or want to match your chain in real life....

There's a little to it...but we can tell you whatever you need to know...just ask.

Sometimes it just one thing after another with a project, but when it's done the feeling of accomplished is definitely worth it.

Well......it's the little stuff like this that keeps us off the streets and out of trouble and occupied....which in turn protects all the dumb out of shape younguns that we can still whoop from our wrath!!!!

Well technically you can, but is it as affective and easy and less frustrating.....no.

I dont recall anything being said in this thread about aligning sprockets with the chain on. But what the heck, since you mentioned it, I may give that a shot too. I am beginning to enjoy frustration.

This is mostly for Poboy---I inspected the chain and found the bent link and it also was missing a roller. I replaced that section and put everything back together and it don't make as much noise and I rode until I got a cramp in my leg and I got tired. The chain is still on. Shucks man, I aint no kid anymore!!!! Thanks to all you guys.

Kind of late but im having the same problem. How much washers did you put under the engine on the side of the clutch? Also kind of confused on what "bow" you guys are talking about in the first pic.
