Yerf Dog 3203 clutch jumps on & off several times before catching

I am new to karting and have a Yerf dog 3203. The cluch grabs intermittently on & off before catching. Is this usually just dirt ? Or some other problem or adjustment. Any good links to suggest?

hey mate mine did the same thing & it turned out it wasnt joined tight enuf, I gave it a crack with the Hammer and tightened it, it worked great for a while but now it keeps popping out on me so maybe i wrecked something lol

It's never a good idea to take to a clutch with a hammer...

JNRIII, can you please post pics of the clutch? Right now, we have no way of knowing whether you have a centrifugal clutch or a torque converter; also, someone may notice an obvious (to us) solution...

Hey JNRIII, I'm also new here and I just picked up a YD3203 last night myself. Not trying to hi-jack your post, but when I rode my cart for a couple minutes it was doing the exact same thing. My clutch was also engaging roughly. When I got home I looked at it and noticed that my jackshaft was loose and would move around a little. I tightened it up some, but I'm not sure how tight to make it or if that's exactly what is causing my rough engagement. Have you checked yours?
Hopefully other's with actual experience will have more suggestions/answers.

A jackshaft should never move, so yes, it must be as tight as can be

As I suspected, you, sir, have a torque converter, most likely a TAV2...

A couple of possible reasons:
-worn or incorrect belt
-clutches need cleaning (not likely but possible)
-insufficient preload on the driven clutch...

Sorry but, that's as much help as I can give on the subject, someone else will need to jump in from here...

Belt is good, probably not dirt, How do I increase-preload on the driven clutch. ??? I assume driven is the one closer to the rear of the kart. Thanx JNR..

That is correct. Someone will come along and walk you through the preload.
