As Dirty here and I know, if you're new to karting, in any sense... be careful what you wish for. Most folks can't handle 45 in one. We've seen it. Haven't we Dirty?
If you have done this, then disregard what I said above.
Reason I said it: I've seen people go all out, spend 8 grand or more only to come back after ONE lap having soiled themselves and their hands shaking. We never saw them again. And keep in mind, once you go all out, all that nifty stuff you bought... is not worth HALF what you paid for it.
There is no "best kart in the world." If the one you're driving wins, that's the best kart. Tonykarts are great, always have been. There's whole list of "good ones" out there but honestly... it's the driver most of the time. I took a 300 dollar spare and took podium with it.
I'm with Dirty too.
2 strokes:
KT100's are great fun and fast, but rebuilds (2 per season), clutches get expensive.
Rotax and shifter... even more.
4 CYcle, Yep, Briggs, period.
If you're gonna race, be prepared for the cost. 4 Cycle classes, minimim of 2 sets of tires per season. 2 stroke... well, the faster ya go, the faster the tires wear. My daughter races Rotax and Briggs, so.... One set of tires lasts 2 race weekends for the Rotax, Briggs... we're onto our 2nd set now and it's half way through our season. Each set, (4 tires), 210.00 and 260.00 (rotax)
Fly? My friend... the 2 cycle classes gets you to the take-off speed of a small airplane... and you literally can "Fly" if you mess up.
That's why you sign the "I know I can DIE HERE" waiver.
Be safe.
