Update:

Note to self... Rustoleum Sunburst Yellow Spray Paint is a direct match to a 1970's metal tonka truck.

A wee bit back, when my mom passed and my dad decided to clean house, I got my old metal original tonka trucks back. I have two sets complete. I combined them all to make one complete set with no broken parts and was left with a few things.

Why not.

I decided that somewhere I'd make the "tonka rod"... then it died off because I kind of lost myself along the way. Things were strange for a time back then, but this evening... on a whim (such is my way) I decided to blow out a whole can of this stuff on my finished set of 4" manco wheels. (one of which is repaired with jb weld)

Paint them six tappy hole thingys black (better yet, tap them & put actual bolts in them) and some knobbies... it'll look right. Yep.

Now for another set of live axle rear manco wheels... which I do not have. (see, I'm just making work here... sigh*)

I swing a mean can o'spray paint if do say so myself.

Hm...

This project will be simple, briggs 5HP flatty, pipes everywhere... use the front as the front clip and the dump in the back for something... oh, that, and more of this gnarley paint.

You know it. The one I'm using is a survivor I remember distinctly... A: blowing up with firecrackers, B: Throwing off my garage, C: Riding in when I was younger than 5.

This one's vintage I guess... and that's my way. Pi$$ off the purists and use a collectors item for fun! Heck yea. No rubbing this sucker with a diaper at some convention for goons.

Long live the tonka. We hail thee.

Here's the 2nd pic from the original post on this one. The usual, slammed, stretched... make nifty attachments. You know the drill by now.

And of course, it comes to me... Put the motor in the dump, feed the clutch through the side... Yep.

Love Tonkas. Since you mentioned riding in them. My son born in July 07, Got his first Tonka "Super Dump" for his first Christmas at 5 mos. old. He rode in that thing before he could walk or crawl. Now he has like 5 or 6 a couple are his 20yr old uncle's "survivors" Man those Mancos look so much like Tonka wheels,
Did you do a Post on this idea before? or was it on Kartrods.

Lunchtime update:

Found a local guy here selling some older motors... with some luck, the Baroness will get THE right engine.

It needs a tecumseh to look right. The one I'd originally used was an 80's model... and I've found one better.

... and older. It's round enough to do the job and it's a runner.

MUA HA HA HA!

Update:

So I get to this place and who's selling all these things? A kid. A 12 yr old boy.

The house was in a bad neighborhood, the house itself was a wreck and here's this kid, just wrenching away in the garage.

I could tell by looking around that something was up and after talking with mom, and the kid... Dad had passed away and they were in trouble. They were selling off things to make ends meet and... well...

So here's this kid, trying his little heart out to start this thing (keep in mind, it's only an industrial 3.5 HP tecumseh... and I don't exactly want it now that I know what it is.)

...but he's still going at it and really putting some effort into this, and telling me all about it. He really knew what he was doing too, I was impressed.

In the end, he couldn't get it to start but it did "pop" once.

I knelt down and looked at him. "Kid, I'll give ya 50 bucks... how's that?"

He smiled and said "Thank you sir."

"Keep wrenching kid" I replied.

Sooo...

Back at home, I've now got this H35... and what to do with it. I'm not unhappy about the purchase at all. There's parts on this thing that I could ebay and get my money back anyway.

Out with the H50... Let's get creative. Somehow it's missing a shroud now (wonder where that went... hm.)

A 3.5 industrial shroud on a 5 tec. That'll look fun.

That, and parts to boot. So... on we go.

I dunno. We'll see how this turns out.

Kelly you rock. That beats handing money to those guys on the side of the freeway off ramp anyday. Sounds like you ought to introduce that kid to Dennis. 12 yr old mechanic! cool!

What's there to say? Some addon pieces to the shroud directing air where it should go... and we'll be fine. It's an artistic thing.

Sometimes it doesn't make sense. It doesn't need to.

Just wait, I got a plan. (I make it up as I go.)

Left field... LOL. That was funny. I "AM" left field. (oh if you only knew)

LOL, and wouldn't you know it. A 50 dollar deal pops up on a local classified... with... you guessed it, a Tecumseh H50.

Too funny.

I like 50 dollar deals.

I like the front bumper! and the custom exhaust. This is almost a candidate for your other thread except the 50bucks.

I'll guess it had a body on it once... but in the location it's in, a farming/hick town 45 miles away... it's probably a cow-bumper or something now.

Yea, probably a candidate... but sadly, there's nothing to really pick at or make fun of here... it's just a sad sack of crap that needs a home.

With some luck, I'll get this one. Never know. Parts is parts... and options.

FUN!

Update:

Um... being artistic sucks sometimes. You're always second guessing yourself and sometimes... you gotta stop for a minute and regroup.

Being a bit bored, I thought I'd organize. On a special shelf now, is all the parts for each one that's not assembled yet. The reason, I'm not quite clear on every single thing yet so sometimes, you get a version of "writers block" and get stuck.

So you do something else.

Now, with the whirlwind that has become of all the parts over the years, things get moved around and used on other things. Wheels have switched around and who knows where it all landed.

So where was the Baroness?

Here.

In the mess, I've found a nifty replacement for the inner fan that is just a plastic fan from a GX 160. Now, it'll be a metal fan from the trashed AH47 where Sarge's tank came from.

I think I'll work on this for a bit... cause it's gnarley.

Time to put Bret's idea to use too. The chain tensioner out of a connecting rod.

That air filter may change into something a bit different too. It's big, but too big.

For her initial run when I get it going, it will only have one engine... until I find the match to this tec... possibly coming Sunday. Then we'll see just how strange it will get.

Thanks for lookin.

Update:

Dude sold that 50 dollar thing out from under me. He even said he's take 50 for the whole thing and I said "I will buy it."

but not to be had I guess.

Screw it.

Onward.

Check it out... or more to the point. Check this sexy babe out.

The connecting rod/chain tensioner came from a jacobsen 321. The lower part of the rod fit the frame perfectly. For the gear, the camber adjustment pills from a toasted race kart happened to fit nicely in the rod, and another set fit that 5/8 bearing very very well. Thanks Bret for the idea.

Top that off with an adjustable turnbuckle to tighten it and we might keep this chain on... maybe.

It's ABOUT ready. More to go of course and lots of this is just sitting in place.. but not much further to go. All the parts line up and it's now just in the details. Some longer bolts, etc... and well... I love this one.

Thanks for looking.
