Rusty old $20 chassis- can I make it work?

Hi all-

I'm currently in the process of sourcing parts for a summer project kart with a few friends. However, we're all complete strangers to the kart scene. We're just looking to have some fun in the backyard while spending as little money as possible in the process.

So, you can imagine our excitement when we were offered a frame for 20 bucks. It's not beautiful, but we think we can make it work. I figured I'd run it by "the pros" first. Here are the pictures I have of it:

The seller doesn't know much about it. From the pictures, it seems to have a live axle and a disc brake, which I'm happy about. However, I'm not thrilled about the handlebar-type steering with the levers for throttle and brake. I'd prefer a good old wheel and pedals.

Anyways, we're hoping to hook up a Predator 212cc, convert it to a steering wheel and pedals, and burn some rubber. Will this frame suit our needs? I don't know how to tell if we will be able to mount a predator, is it the right type of mounting plate? Will it be possible for us to ditch the handlebars for a steering wheel with minimal re-welding of the frame and other such wizardry? Any insight is appreciated. We're all itching to get started!

Idk what it is, but it reminds me of a skateboard, and is freakin awesome!

With as low as that sits it looks like it was meant for dirt/gravel.

Steering wheel would be possible, but probably a good bit of work as ot looks like.you would have to change out a good deal of parts.

Rust doesnt look too bad, but cant tell without being up close.

Imo, keep it like is as far as steering, it looks fun, very fun.

Might get a 212 on there but idk because I have no way to tell just from looking at the pic, with nothing for a reference to its actual size. From what I can see is its small, tiny even so idk, maybe, bave to do some measuring.

Huh, interesting. Thanks for the thoughts. Seller referred to it as an "old race kart frame", dunno how accurate that is, but I love how low it is.

I've been told it's a bit more than 4 feet long and 2 feet wide, which seems pretty small to me? Again, this will be my first kart so I really have no frame of reference... Hoping that someone can confirm a Predator 212 will fit because I've sort of fallen in love with that engine during my research

That is a razor ground force electric Kart frame. Looks like it was in a fire. Here is a link to a guy that built one into a gas Kart. Scroll to post #7. I also have 2 threads on here about converting my Razor electric buggies to gas. That looks like you could have a cool little project there!

Huh. I wonder why the guy would have just the frame from an electric Razor kart, with no engine or seat or anything? And not know anything about it? That's odd. Thanks.

Hmmm. I just watched a few videos of the stock ground force thingy, and it looks small even with young kids riding it... I may actually have to pass up this frame. I might be able to fit the predator, but then there would be no room for the driver....

For a $20 bill, you are gonna pass??? Seriously? Part it out for 3x that at least. Get it dude

It is definately small, no doubt about it. I would still get it, sell it for more and use that cash to help fund your project. CL has a lot of frames if you look hard enough

personally I'd get it,
but not exactly for a four stroke engine (or anything that size)

I'd rather run it with a 50cc two stroke revmonster
to get something along these lines:

for that it looks to be an ideal base IMHO..

Scrapped 4 of those karts... just a cheap Chinese piece o junk.
Not worth $20 I don't think... maybe 5 if youre desperate?

Still have the engines from them, all blowed up waiting to be disassembled.
