Cheers,
I will soon purchase a motorcycle engine (CBR 600, R1 types of bikes, not choppers) and I would like to get your expertise to evaluate an approximate cost about the possible parts that must be replaced in a motorcycle engine. Based on your expertise, what are the most common problems to address and the parts to look about to make sure the engine works decently. Even though the engine is not perfectly tuned or in best shape, a well working, decent motorcycle engine would do the job. The motorcycle bike may run already, but what are the areas where I need to make a check and what are the possible costs of replacing the necessary parts? Also, can someone link me to a web page where the address the wiring involved in the motorcyle engine. That section is where I get the most headache.

Thank you!!! :wai::wai::wai::wai:

Off hand it depends on the overall level of degradation.
As in your first thread, buy the whole bike, test ride it. Assess it from there, Strip it for the parts you need.

If thinking about it, and trying to comprehend it all, gives you a headache,......
Then building a kart with an over sized engine like that will just plain kill you.....
Just go buy a buggy, till you got a better grasp of how it all works, why it works, and how to keep it working..... :thumbsup:

:iagree:......And I'm in just the right mood to toss this in:

If you are incapable of filling out a profile location on this forum.....perhaps you may have deficiencies that will prohibit your success on this endeavor.....

If you can comprehend the above.....and are willing to put forth the small effort necessary.....perhaps you can alter my perception of you.....

By headache, I imply that its not my cup of tea. Everybody encounters a particular problem throughout their build where they are asking for help from others with experience. On that note, i will stick to my plans and seek for people with expertise that can give me advice instead of fleeing for something else :)

What parts do you think need to be replaced? Modern engines are very reliable, the only issue is young people who beat the crap out of them. Buy a complete bike so you can hear it run. Buy an older bike with carbs to simplify the wiring.

id say check all the o-rings, boots from head to carbs, gaskets and diaphrams. simple stuff like cruddy seals can lead to leaks and tuning headaches. sometimes these parts can cost big money.

the previous owner of my 83 suzuki gs750e ripped all 4 of the diaphrams and just those alone set me back 80 something dollars.
