I thought about astroturfing my yard years ago....just recently I saw some artificial grass at Home Depot specifically made for that....and it looked pretty good......but after checking....it might be cheaper to cover my yard with Persian rugs.....

If you live in a place where the grass will need a lot of water, I can imagine that it could pay off eventually.

I assume fake grass still hasn't gotten beyond the fake plasticy sharp-edged feel though.

I have a friend that owns synthetic turf grass company and I'll admit, they've come a long way with that stuff. They throw in brown and yellowish strands here and there which really do make it look more real, and yes they can make it soft and long but still stand up. My beef with it is the cost for one, for example, if I had my backyard done, I'd still have to pay for the section that would cover the area where the pool is even though it wouldn't be installed there. The other issue is that it gets hot in the summer sun, you actually have to spray it with water to keep the temp down. All that being said, I did buy a 3' x 10' strip from him for $50 for the dogs to use in our otherwise rock backyard. They're fairly disciplined in using it.

She used that as the title of one of her book's of humor from back in the early 1970's: "The Grass Is Always Greener Over The Septic Tank". Of course, if yours actually is, you might want to get the system checked; the discharge is supposed to go down, not come back up.......

Thing is, I'm pretty sure its a concrete tank, and the people who built the house, decided to plant a red-oak about 10 yards from it... it was SMALL THEN. not so much any more. It's never "wet" in that area, and there has never been a smell. also it gets pumped when its suppose to be. so we always ignored it.

If it where to get replaced/fixed the tree would have to die. then the yard would be tree-less. well other then the stupid palm tree.
