Hello y'all. I am new to this and am curious about some things. I built this frame and put on a predator 212. I added exhaust, intake, jets, and a new clutch. It went about 35 mph. I wanted a bit more speed so I put on a billet flywheel, pulled the governor, and added a comet torque converter. Now it takes off a little faster but it's actually a bit slower. What am I not getting here. I'm confused and need some input. What's next? I got $700 into a motor that isn't performing to my standards. A little help please??

It's depends on the gearing of the go kart, you could have all the HP in the world but not the right gearing and all its going to do is accelerate to its top speed then stop there, so you need better gearing

He didn't mention anything about gearing, just that a TC was added & a few go fast bits to the engine (albeit, not exactly the best parts...); theoretically, by only adding the TC, it should be faster, depending on the size of the TC sprocket but, not by much...

Investing in a billet flywheel is a good idea if your engine will be turning 8krpm, not so much if it's only doing 5krpm; a billet flywheel may be stronger but, it's also lighter; with the stock conrod & valve springs, the engine will still only turn around 5krpm before the valves start to bounce; with the lightweight billet flywheel the engine will reach max RPM faster but, it won't hold the RPM like a heavier steel flywheel...

That may have something to do with it, it may not, the only way to find out is to refit the original & see what happens...

For future reference, no matter what the intended purpose of your engine, billet flywheel & harder valve springs are always last on the list of mods, behind billet conrod: the stock conrod will let go long before the stock flywheel does...

My drive sprocket is smaller now because I went from a 35 chain to a 40, therefor had to change the sprocket. Would that make that big of a difference? Any how thanks for all your advice.

even with a 54 tooth I don't think you will be low enough geared unless you stay on hard flat ground . 6.5:1 to 7:1 would work a little better, you may end up needing to go to #35 chain !2 and 80 tooth or 11 and 78 ish , my wife's with about the same setup was running a 12 and 78 with 15" tires and it worked out good with the modified engine

Small sprocket is a 10 tooth and large sprocket is a 48 tooth. Tires are 15 X 6.00 X 6

Well, there's your problem. the high gearing means the engine has to work harder to reach top speed... which it now can't do due to the strain imposed on it; you should notice a significant difference with 5.4:1 gearing, better acceleration & better top speed...
